He's got the talent. To do that as a freshman is remarkable. He will be near unstoppable if he stays four years. He'll also has the tools to succeed in the NFL.

Doesn't have NFL size?

Isn't he like 6'6 and is a power lifter?

The comparisons I've read are to Russell Wilson

6'2'' 210 lbs (Wilson is 5'11'' 215 lbs)

And yea he's already one of the strongest non linemen on the team in his lower body.

You have to look at his teams record with him leading the team at QB. Not sure if his record at Bama is good enough for him to be considered elite

If he's listed as 6'2, he's probably 6'1. But yeah, he's a Texas state champion power lifter. There's a reason he breaks through tackles, instead of just juking or taking a dive. His lower body is more like a running back than most DT QBs.

He's obviously bright enough to have learned enough of the offense to win the job. His dad being a coaching, he probably watched game film as a kid instead of cartoons. Saban loves students of the game. But coming from high school, you can tell moments where the game is moving to fast, and he looked to dump it and misses the wide open TD to the deep man.

He's got a lot more to learn, and skills to develop. But I haven't seen anything that tells me he won't develop. I'd be surprised if he didn't become a very good college QB. Whether he'll get his accuracy and timing down enough to become an NFL, is way too early to tell.

I could see his career being like McCarron. Damn good college QB. One of the best in Bama history. Will win a lot of games. The players around him will cover up his flaws for the most part.

I could also see him being a solid backup in the NFL, but I don't think he has the arm to be a full time starter at that level

Are you basing all this on his Freshman year? You realize players get better? I think he could end up being a great passer. He's made some great throws this year...like the one against Auburn to Stewart.

Kid just turned 18 a few weeks ago. He has time to work on his arm. I don't think strength is his issue but his wind-up is way to slow.

I'll be shocked if Hurts sticks around for four years. He's going to be a three year starter and then leave for the NFL Draft after his junior year. Bama fans myself included tend to nitpick his flaws especially as a passer. We tend to forget that he's a true freshman. For a true freshman, Hurts has played exceptionally well. I truly believe he's going to be a superstar in CFB and will be a high draft pick in the NFL.

The best college comp I have for him isn't a Taj Boyd or a Dak Prescott-- it goes back a bit further, to another 'mobile QB' who started out being an accurate sideline to sideline short passer, given to single and double reads before taking off to gain what he could on his own, who gradually had his range of throws and reads expanded as he matured into a leadership role-- Donovan McNabb of Syracuse. Now, he's leaps and bounds faster than McNabb, and McNabb had serious issues with being sacked for years at a very bad Syracuse team-- it completely crushed his rushing numbers. Syracuse had a weird modified option offense, as well, so it wasn't always instructive to look at their base for comparison, so much as their passing down offense.

That said, if he is asked to mature the same way, and grows his game in the same sort of fashion, there is no reason he can't be an NFL QB.

He did make some good throws. He's got good short to mid range accuracy. But it helps when your future NFL OL gives you all day to find a target and your future NFL WR makes great catches. The type of talent Bama has can make you look better. I mean, Greg McElroy won yall a NC and he couldnt even get on the field at Texas Tech. Thats not a knock on Hurts. I like him as a player and he seems like a really good kid.

Most great passers you can tell early on what kind of potential they have. I just don't see Hurts as an elite passer. Comparing him to McCarron is a compliment. If you remember AJ was a Heisman runner up. He's a good player that demands a roster spot and does well when called upon, he's just not next level elite.

And yall remember I'm not comparing his playing style to McCarron, that's not what OP asked. OP asked how do you see his career going. I think Hurts is more capable of carrying a team and is further along at this stage than mccarron. I just see their career paths being similar.

Yall don't be so sensitive and learn to take a compliment. Just because I don't declare everything about Bama and all their players GOAT doesn't mean I'm trying to knock yall

He will fade away into anonymity after his four years is up until the REC comes and gives him his purple pony to ride off into the sunset.

Hurts enrolled at Bama as a 17 yo dual threat QB. He turned 18 only 3 months ago. He is very smart and comes from a great family. He has the tools to develop. His development will hinge on his commitment to be a great passer. I wouldn't bet against him.

If I'm wrong and he ends up as an everyday starter in the NFL I'd gladly eat crow. Like you said, he's a great kid. I really mean that, if I had a daughter I'd be pleased for her to bring a guy like him home. If BowlJackson is saying that about a Bama QB it should tell you I mean no ill will here

I already said I think he'll have about as successful of a college career as you can have and can have a long NFL career as a backup. Maybe even a journeyman starter. That's just my opinion, and at this point in time I don't see it in his future to be a franchise QB or even an everyday starter in the NFL. I wish the kid all the luck in the world and after he leaves Bama I'll be rooting for him. But OP asked how we see his career, and at this point in time that's what I think .
