I chose my words poorly in my initial post. I was intending to say that in a larger context domestic violence and collegiate spending are hot topics in the media.

And Taylor won't cause that. Cause it isn't nearly as big of a story as you think it is

Is it funny to anyone else that all the posters on this board will harp on the Jon Taylor incident ad nauseam. And then turn right around and accuse Bama fans of hubris in thinking that the Jon Taylor incident is national news.

There is truth on either side A. Jon Taylor is a POS and it's an indictment on the way we run our program and B. Bama fans have sense of self-importance nearly unrivaled in the collegiate sports world. But it's just funny to see people playing both sides at the same time

No one is saying it isn't national news, just that it isn't nearly big enough for people like john oliver to dedicate part of his show to violence in sports because of it you fricking gump

John Oliver is a political show that is viewed worldwide and tackles important issues worldwide

So it's national news, but not a-one national news, only second rate.

Thank god somebody is here to make that distinction for us. What would we do without you?

Then back to my initial statement then, as shortsighted as it was on my part. If John Oliver doesn't have time for discussion of "violence in sports", why did he have time for collegiate athletics spending in wake of the O'Bannon lawsuit? I would think it stands to reason, both are hot topics and both would be talked about on a national level.

Probably because this is the SEC Rant.

Most of us are able to differentiate between important matters in the real world and important matters in SEC football (hard to believe if you're a Bama fan, but a difference exists).

If Oliver's main focus was the SEC or college football then he would probably discuss it.

Don't be upset. If he ever does a bit about incest, you'll have the spotlight again.

because that was a historic lawsuit in that the NCAA was involved in an unreasonable restraint of trade and has a possibility of ending up in the supreme court. This is just some sports news that will go away in a couple days

Well sorta but not really it's a late-night type satirical news show shown in the US, Canada and the UK.

And his long segments such as this one always tackle big issues like tobacco, pharmaceuticals, etc

And every segment is posted on YouTube and viewed worldwide because each segment becomes the top video on reddit for that day

What topic would you say he covers the most? I'd say politics

He doesn't just make shite up...while he is a comedy show, it's also accurate in its satire

And yes, reddit is one of the most influential websites on the Internet

i didn't say he made stuff up but he covers current events more than anything- he's no hannity or bill o reilly or greta van blah blah. it's actually a compliment towards his show that it's not overly political.
