The Southern Conference (which includes The Citadel ) dropped to Division II in 1982. Division II was created in 1978, but (as mentioned before) it has expanded significantly since that time. In 1958, there was just the "College Division".

It got me angry, sad, and laughing all at the same time. I was sitting right in the first row 5 feet away in the endzone where the celebrating RB who scored the game winner was. Everybody in that stadium knew what GS was doing and our big, bad, SEC defense (granted VERY banged up) couldn't do shite

Oh it was a great to be an Eagle that day. I remember wathcing the game on an ipad and dancing in my drive way with my old Southern roomate. We couldn't believe it.
Kinda made the LSU/aTm game right after that anti-climatic.
