You can say he is meh hire, but Alabama's linebackers were still pretty good under him. If you think this is because of Saban or because of them simply recruiting the best linebackers to start with, hopefully Thompson and Muschamp combined can do the same thing for us.

To be fair, he's the best recruiter we've had on staff under Coach Saban in my opinion. But our best linebacking corps as a unit were in 2009, 2010, and 2011. Coincidentally, the 3 years he was at Tennessee before coming back to Bama in 2012.

He only coached OLBs in his last two stints at Alabama.

Average coach, best recruiter in America.

Alabama's front 7 is always really good, and their secondary happens to blow this year, but Lance Thompson is average but Midget Bear is a god.

You won't find a single fan of any team Thompson has coached for that will tell you he's a great position coach.

Our best years at LB were all years that he wasn't in charge of them. That's not a coincidence.

He is a fantastic recruiter, though.

I think Sal Sunseri had a lot to do with that. He was an excellent OLBS coach. Just a terrible DC at Tennessee.

I don't know a single fan of Alabama who is qualified to explain what they think an outside linebacker coach does, much less whether Lance Thompson was proficient at the job.

Whatever you say, bud.

Lance is the best LB coach in America.

@AaronSuttles
I have confirmed from multiple sources that Lance Thompson was told to find a job elsewhere.

Please explain the LB play that bookended the years of 2009-2011. Conincedentally the years Thompson was away. He's had three different stints at Alabama. I think we may know a thing or two about him. He's an excellent recruiter. But there's always been doubt in his coaching.

Hopefully we can get some good coaches for a change instead of just great recruiters. Outside of CJ, our linebackers have been disappointing.

The point is you and Cap and Scoop have no fricking idea what a position coach does, and you don't know if Lance is good at it or not. I'm not sure why you can't admit it. You can say apparently Saban doesn't think much of him, but you really have no idea.

Last time Lance Thompson left Saban and Alabama for one of Alabama's rivals, Alabama's recruiting and success on the field really suffered while the rival achieved tremendous success. Saban needs Thompson - this is a big loss for Bama.
