OT (kind of), but I believe Miles was really going to take the Michigan job. Horrible timing and media hounding right before the biggest game of his career forced him to 'pledge allegiance' to LSU. Didn't you all see how pissed he was when he HAD to call a PC and say he was staying at LSU? He really wanted to go.

Tennessee has seen its better days and will likely be 2nd or 3rd fiddle behind Florida, USCe, Georgia, and Vandy in the foreseeable future. Tennessee needs to lock Dooley into a long-term contract because he is a good as you will get.

could be.

Peyton Manning said (during the LSU UTk game while he was visiting in the booth during a game I saw) UTk/Dooley must recruit nationally to succeed now.

I counted ONE out of state 4-star in the current Rivals count of UTk recruits for 2013. And it was not a national recruit, it was a REGIONAL recruit. Dooley said when he started that he would recruit REGIONALLY, 300 mile circle, which includes Louisville and Cincinnati and ATL.

So far, its not really happening.

If UTk alumni want to return to the glory years, they should go ahead and match the ESPN contract, and try Gruden. At least he probably would have the national recruiting covered.
It would worth it.

I doubt they fill that 110,000 seat stadium if they are a non-factor in the SEC east a couple more years in a row.

Herbstreit picked Auburn to win the west, maybe even the SEC, in 2010 when no one was.

So I can't hate on him for a little bit.

There are 3 OOS 4-stars committed. One from TX, one from Baltimore, one from KS. None within 300 miles.

Also one from Memphis, which is not within 300 miles.

Outside of Atlanta, there is very little talent within 300 miles of Knoxville.

Herbstreit was 100% correct when he reported that Miles was going to Michigan.

On the Friday prior to the SEC Championship game against Tennessee, Miles and Michigan agreed in principle that Miles would become the new Michigan coach. It was going to be announced on Monday after the SEC Title game. LSU found out and countered with a big raise and extention, but it was too little, and too late.

But then .......... a couple of things got in the way of all that. LSU beat Tennessee, Pitt upset West Virginia in Morgantown, and OU destroyed Missouri. The media started analyzing the BCS standings and realized that they had Virginia Tech (a team LSU destroyed) ranked above LSU and they had Georgia (a team that didn't win their own division and who got destroyed by Tennessee, who LSU just beat) ranked above LSU. So.... LSU went from #7 in the BCS standings to #2 and were in the National Title game playing Ohio State.

There was no way that a coach with a team playing for the National Title was going to leave his team. Michigan was not going to wait until after the BCS Title game for their new coach.

So....... On Sunday, Miles took his name out of the Michigan hat, Michigan was still looking, and Herbstreit looked like an idiot.

Sounds like a tin foil hat is in your wardrobe. Strangely enough it doesn't sound far fetched but still
