For his part, Sumlin has a $5 million buyout, up from $2 million, if he chooses to leave before the end of the 2016 season and bowl game, as has been reported, and it is due within 60 days of his resignation.

But after the next three seasons are completed, no damages from Sumlin are included in the contract if he were to take another job in the college ranks or the NFL.

The NFL would be stupid to touch him before 2016 when its free to do so afterwards.

In all seriousness, I actually think some football coaches are just meant to stay in the college game, and I think Sumlin is one of them. He seems to really enjoy working with young players and recruiting. He can make a lot of money here at A&M, and A&M is doing anything and everything to make sure he has all the help he needs to be successful here. I think he stays, I don't think he would enjoy being in the NFL, and I don't think he would be as successful.

Hell, I hope so.

No offense to the Ags, but having tGusBus, Saban, and Miles in the same division is more than enough.

I agree with this part

in addition, he's sitting on some of the THE best facilities in the nation and has the ONLY SEC team in texas. I see him having a long and storied career at A&M.

Sorry OP. But Kevin can't talk to an an NFL team until after 2016 per his contract.

But nice try, dumbass.

I'd like to see him go to the 49ers after Harbaugh leaves this year or next. Wherever he goes is going to have to break the bank.

the rant is hilarious

phase I - LOL your CUSA coach is going to get crushed in the SEC

phase II - Sumlin is going to USC / NFL

phase III - when JFF is gone Sumlin is going to get exposed

phase IV - Sumlin is going to the NFL

The rant has been saying Saban is going to leave for Texas since he stepped off the plane in Tuscaloosa back in 2007. So get in line for documenting its stupidity.

And why cann't his agent talk to an NFl team before then? This is how Saban has always done it. As for any buyout, what is another $5M to Jerry? It would simply be added to the salary offered. But I've heard it both ways from local aggies: some say it's his well known goal to coach in the NFL, others say that is not the case. If you honestly think that his "love to teach young kids" is a reason for him to stay in the college game, you are very very naive. Money always talks. Always. Saban has always said it's not about the money, but he's had his salary increased significantly every place he's been & is now right at the highest paid college coach in the country.

Phase V

If only he could hire someone to coach a damn D

Seriously, is he that hard-headed to not realize it's the only thing holding A&M back?
