I can't really denigrate Kentucky fans for not supporting their team. They've been filling up the stadium they have basically to capacity. And they've brought more people per game to their park than Louisville, who has had more national success recently than they have.

No, they aren't LSU, Arkansas, Mississippi State, or A&M. But they are growing their attendance and being reasonable with their expansion. Which should be encouraged, not frowned upon.

That's not really a great excuse. The MSA of Lexington and Northwest Arkansas are roughly the same and yet we put 8,000+ in our stadium regularly. We also have a AA minor league team and other things to do. Its more likely just not a priority in your fanbase. No fault in that but if folks ever got truly excited about baseball then you'd fill 8,000 no problem.

There is a pro team 1hr away. People are Cincy Baseball fans, UK basketball fans and a mix between a few football teams in the area.

Well done Cats - congrats!

Looking forward to coming-up for a series.

May the SEC, one day soon, completely dominate college baseball year-in and year-out. We're close to being there already.

That is tiny. How the hell does that cost 49M?

It's permanent seat capacity is 2400. 4,000 if you include seating on the berm. They are also including space beyond the outfield wall to expand capacity to 6,000 for NCAA Tournament games. That's about the same as UofL's Jim Patterson and they've hosted regionals regularly.

And they're pretty well building it from the ground up with costs that carried over from the design phase.

Nice. I'm thinking there's a good chance that A&M's next trip up there would be 2019--hope it's not 2018, as I would rather wait for the new park, but I do need to make it up to Lexington some time.

Kudos to "Northwest Arkansas" and whatever towns comprise this region for having 8K a game.

This is Lexington and there's minor league baseball and more things to do than the average "college town."

Ummmmmmmm, for instance?

You were responding to the poster who commented about 2400 seat capacity?

You're implying that other (sic: more) City of Lexington, KY activities thwart efforts to draw more fans to see Wildcat baseball?

You're claiming there are more things to do in Lexington, KY that in other average "college town(s)."

Name some.

I suspect you'll be wrong about minor league baseball.

Columbia, SC has minor league baseball and one of the finest minor league parks in the country with excellent attendance ... it doesn't affect Gamecock baseball.

I'm just interested in all of these other things in Lexington, KY ... been there many times, love the place, but not sure I agree with your contention. Unless you're saying the Bourbon Trail will affect your baseball attendance?

Looks nice. $49M seems high for the seating capacity when you look at what State is building for a projected $40M.

Anecdotally, the Bourbon trail would impact their attendance positively when it comes to me.

I wouldn't mind pairing an LSU-Kentucky baseball weekend with drinking a ton of whiskey at the source.

We just renovated the football stadium and built a brand new practice facility.

Yeah but it doesn't compete with the best of the SEC. Not even close.

Agreed, and I've been there, done that. Nothing like the Bourbon Trail and it takes a few times to see it all.

Keeneland is closed, to the best of my knowledge, during baseball season. I'm not even sure they are still doing tours at Keeneland during baseball season.

The bar scene is pretty cool in Lexington, KY but I am not sure it is better than any other college town I've visited. Columbia, SC, Athens, GA, Nashville, TN, Oxford, MS are all better IMHO ... or at the very least, the very very least, just as good.

There are some stables to visit in Lexington, KY I suppose but that should only affect the visitors.

Shaker Village is pretty cool.

They've got a few nice galleries, shops, historic things going-on .... but so do most SEC college towns.

I'm just not sure what he was referring-to but I'm interested because we go up there often and I want to know what we've been missing.

It's coming. UK desperately needed to upgrade all other facilities, dorms, classroom buildings and research facilities. After nearly $2.5 billion in new construction over the past 10 years, almost all of that has been achieved. The campus is radically different from its state in 2006.

Now comes Rupp.

She doesn't have a lot of fashion sense either (those bottoms with THAT top?).

I guess everyone can't be perfect.
