Kentucky fans, how do you feel about Rick Pitino?

He was the guy who led your storied program out of the depths of mediocrity to the pinnacle of success, only to leave you for the bright lights of the big city and the pros.
As if that wasn't bad enough, after a couple of mediocre seasons he not only returned to college, he returned to coach one of your biggest rivals and lead them to a national championship (the only coach to win one at two different schools in the modern era).
Since you have gone on to have great success, winning both conference and national titles since he left, do you simply enjoy where you are now and appreciate him for what he did for you or do you obsess over his every move and wonder what might have bee had he stayed?
I'm asking for a friend.
TIA

I have no issue with Pitino. What he did for UK deserved a banner in Rupp and it still hangs there today.
Him leaving for Boston wasn't a surprise, it was his dream job, and if not for a bad lottery ball pick (they would have had Tim Duncan), he would have won a lot back in the NBA.
It really didn't bother me that he went to Louisville. I thought it would do what it did, which was make the UL/UK rivalry the greatest in college basketball.

He was the coach for us in the 90s, however, now we have a better coach and therefore don't think much about him one way or the other. For me, the game has kind of passed him by the some extent, although he has still had success at U of L. His press was cutting edge in the 90s and allowed Kentucky to throw teams completely out of kilter. Now, coaches have adjusted and the press just isn't as effective. Also, he doesn't get the talent like Cal or Coach K. His personal life and issues have also diminished him compared to when he coached Kentucky. Championship wise, I'm not sure we would be any better off today than we are now, even if Pitino had stayed from 1990 to the present at UK

I like Pitino and wish he had never left UK. I feel we would have several more NC's now than we do if he had stayed.

Reasonable and makes sense. If cal wasn't doing great things in Lexington I'm sure the animosity would be super high.

Who is more butthurt concerning a former coach? LSU or Kentucky?

True. If UK didn't have Cal, and Pitino was beating us on the reg, then my view might be different.

My perception is probably skewed living in Louisville. Kentucky is bigger than it's coach (see multiple coaches who have had great success here). I don't blame him for leaving for Boston or even going to Louisville. And his banner deserves to be in the rafters after what he did at UK.
That all said he's been a smug fricking little twat since he's been at UofL. Any "praise" he gives to UK is talking out of both sides of his mouth at best. And don't get me started on all the off the court shite that's gone on either. That's why I can't stand him. Because he's a caricature of himself at best these days.
