I keep hearing your top choice is Billy Donovan, but he’s focused on the Bulls until their offseason, which likely starts tomorrow.

How are you guys feeling about hiring him away from the NBA?

I heard from Matt Jones, Trilly, and that palm reader down on Canal that he's going to be Pope's GM for the program. Looking forward to it.

Did you ever confirm that the only reason Nate Oats didn’t take the Kentucky job was because he was barred from leaving the state because of the divorce? I hope it is true. It would be awesome if a divorce court could make Nate Oats be coach at Alabama for many, many years to come.

I’ve already explained my comment to you and one of your fellow Bammers confirmed it was a rumor floating around on Kentucky boards.

For someone who sky screamed for a solid week about the rumor being “out there” you sure don’t mind bringing it up every time you breathe.

Are you still an Iowa fan from a WBB game?

Or is there another reason

It was just a rumor floating around on Kentucky boards until someone posted it here.

I don't know Oats' personal situation. I don't know if he is going through a divorce, but a court could absolutely rule that if his wife had primary physical custody, the kids would stay in Tuscaloosa County and attend Tuscaloosa schools if that is her county of residence. That wouldn't bar Oats from leaving the state, but it would severely limit his time with his children if he did. So your smart arse comment isn't as clever as you think it is, as usual.

I am strange. I don’t like people fricking with people’s family’s over sports. Like BluegrassBelle spreading rumors about divorces or Jangalang posting a picture of Nate Oats’ daughters when they were pre-teens yesterday. I will talk shite about any player or coach. But I think wives/kids/families should be off limits. I know I am strange here.

No one is saying anything remotely like that. What is wrong with some of you?

Divorce proceedings are open record in the Alabama court system. The details of custody would likely be kept confidential. But divorce proceedings are sure as shite public record.

If Nate Oats or his wife initiated divorce proceedings, the information would be available to anyone that sent in a public records request. You obviously don’t think a single journalist would have broken such a story. That to me seems dumb.

If you google “Nate Oats Divorce” the only hits are from Rupp Rafters and from here.

I think anything related to coaches families and players families should be off limits here.

But you seem to feel differently.

Not if the court seals the record, which is done all the time for various reasons. In a high profile case, a lawyer representing Nate Oats or some other public figure would probably ask the court to seal the record.

As I said, I don't know if Oats is going through a divorce, nor have I researched it. It's none of my business. I've been through one myself, and I would never disparage Nate Oats or anyone else on a message board if they were going through one.

But when it was posted that he may be going through a divorce and would not be able to leave the state for that reason, that was probably in reference to the fact that if his wife was awarded physical custody of the children, the court would rule that the children would stay in state. Therefore, his visitation with them would be limited if he chose to go to Kentucky.

As Belle said, you are the one who brought it up, yet again. It wasn't the topic of the OP, but here we are because of you.

I am familiar with divorce. A judge can seal the proceedings, but it is supposed to rise to a matter of public scandal, national security, or fear for the safety of those involved.

The Governor of Alabama, Robert Bentley, went through a divorce while in office and the records were sealed. And it was all over the news within hours.

For three months the news was all about the governors’ divorce.

You don’t think it is strange that NO ONE ever heard about this before Nate Oats said “no thanks” to Kentucky? That no one in the Tuscaloosa courthouse that knew about it ever said a thing about it to anyone?

Again, no one had ever heard this rumor until a pissed on and pissed off Kentucky twitter journalist posted that the reason Nate Oats had no interest in the Kentucky coaching job was because his divorce prevented him from leaving the state of Alabama. Even if it was a custody issue, you don’t think he could afford a house in Tuscaloosa and fly into town when he had visitation? Plus one of his daughters is now an adult and the others are in high school I believe. It isn’t like he is having to listen to a baby monitor at night.

And yet Kentucky fans ran with it. You don’t think that no journalists have dug into it even a little since it became a rumor? Yet we have not heard a single damn peep about it since Kentucky hired Pope.

None of it made sense. It was just super shitty behavior from pissed off and hurt Kentucky basketball fans.

I will hold a grudge towards the Kentucky fans that spread the rumor on this forum. And you for defending them. Again, I think families should be off limits. But some don’t feel that way.

Thank you Mike. You proved during the Kentucky coaching search that you are wrong about everything. So I will take this as a compliment.

That’s healthy.

You’re the one who keeps bringing it up. In detail. Now for weeks. You’re literally perpetuating what you’re complaining about.
