I think we had the momentum after the TD. The FG call was really the right one. I think Saban felt we had the momentum and he was just hoping the kid would do something amazing to win it

I agree and still think Saban made the right call. Obviously it backfired in spectacular fashion.....but I did not want to go to OT as I was convinced AU had the momentum at that point and we wouldn't have won.....

It was just a odd situation. Saban had his regular FG unit on the field and probably did not think for one second that we would be able to run it back all the way

I think its just a situation where we had the better guys on the field and there was nothing Bama could do once Davis hit the corner

"Bama as all fat guys out there" was about the best explanation that could have been given.

Doesnt even compare because this game was basically a spot for the national championship.

As brutal of an ending as that was for an Alabama fan, you cant deny it was a great game. If we had not won 3 of the last 5 national titles, it would have been much worse to stomach.

I absolutely agreed with the FG and still do (though I might suggest putting a little more speed on the field :). )

Coaches are human just like we are, and not even the "perfect" Nick Saban can anticipate every fine detail. All we can ask is that he knows his players, he has scouted the opponents, and he knows the odds and what puts us in best position to win.

If the kid makes the long field goal, Saban is a genius. There's a reason this play is so memorable...it just doesn't happen almost ever.

That was what I was waiting for as I stood there -- for what seemed like half an hour -- as the officials were deciding on putting the second back on the clock.

I will talk what if..what if he had made the kick?
Auburn would be ages getting past it..and a loss at TTown this year might have been it for Malzahn. Adam Griffin is an instant hero whose name would have surpassed Van Tiffin.

I don't know if we could have gone on to win it all again, we would have had to play like we did in the second half vs LSU to have a shot.

No one talks about Coppers miracle 99 yard TD catch either. What if he dropped it?

If ifs and buts were candies and nuts...

but seriously, if he would have made it, we would have probably gone on to win 3 in a row, and Auburn would have still had a hell of a season, and they would still be really good this upcoming season.

If he kick was good, AU would have beaten OU and pre-season ranked in the TOp 5.

Well he had his max protection package which made sense given the distance. AU was not going to get to the block. .....but will concede Gus called it by putting his speediest and shiftiest return man back there anticpating a good chance to field it.

That was a great play to watch and certainly famous. But you had the two time defending national champs going for the three peat lose a game on a 109 yard play with .01 seconds on the clock. The "kick 6" will be shown as long as they play football.

Auburn won the state championship and the SEC west with that victory.
