That's really shitty that up they are deleting video that isn't even from a broadcast.

How in the world could it harm them for a show to have b-roll footage shot from the court for a damn highlight show?

there is such a thing as a Fair Use law which the SEC cannot control.

/thread

If you take a video of yourself "Commenting" on the video, then (I think) it's 100% fair use. However simply reposting a video to social media (without commentary or new reporting) ISN'T fair use and likely is an infringement.

quote:

17 U.S.C. § 107

Notwithstanding the provisions of sections 17 U.S.C. § 106 and 17 U.S.C. § 106A, the fair use of a copyrighted work, including such use by reproduction in copies or phono records or by any other means specified by that section, for purposes such as criticism, comment, news reporting, teaching (including multiple copies for classroom use), scholarship, or research, is not an infringement of copyright. In determining whether the use made of a work in any particular case is a fair use the factors to be considered shall include:

1) the purpose and character of the use, including whether such use is of a commercial nature or is for nonprofit educational purposes;
2) the nature of the copyrighted work;
3) the amount and substantiality of the portion used in relation to the copyrighted work as a whole; and
4) the effect of the use upon the potential market for or value of the copyrighted work.

The fact that a work is unpublished shall not itself bar a finding of fair use if such finding is made upon consideration of all the above factors

As the holder of many copyrights myself, I get wanting to limit and control of copyrighted works. But I also get the the fair use provision of the copyright law applies to me as well, and allows me to exercise my first amendment protections in those venues.

The SEC Network does not want you taking their content and posting it without their permission. Seems like the gifs could be fair game.

SEC Network could shut down your account.

Here's the thing though, Matt Jones (Kentucky Sports Radio) isn't even the one who tweeted the game footage even though his tweets are the ones who received the notice.

Scott Charlton on Twitter records and tweets out highlights from all UK games and former players in real time and Jones quoted those tweets and added commentary. The original tweets with the actual footage are still there.

I tried to post a video while at a Bama game this year to Facebook and it wouldn't upload. Came back with a copy right error
