So, you post a clip of a video from a SEC game, they are having the social media remove it. According to the conference, they are protecting their copy rights...so, that nasty dunk from your favorite player...brutal hit during the football game, no posting a clip from their broadcast. Pretty stupid on their part.

Thoughts?

Basically, you pull out your phone...rewind your DVR and start recording and then proceed to post it on social media...the SEC Network will have the media outlet service remove the clip you posted.

The SEC Network does not want you taking their content and posting it without their permission. Seems like the gifs could be fair game.

SEC Network could shut down your account.

I think it's pretty stupid. I like how I can put a personal picture on social media and anyone can use it. Yet I can't record something I pay for.

Good info Mike

NFL did the same thing this year. The only videos allowed to be put on social media have to be directly sent out by the NFL. Teams aren't even allowed to tweet themselves clips of games unless they are retweets from the NFL's official account.

IMO it's very petty and wouldn't you want your product to be "trending"?

You botched the information pretty bad.

The SEC is doing now what the Olympics and NFL tried to do. They consider any programming involving SEC teams their sole property and if you post footage on the internet they can have it taken down because it is copyrighted by the SEC.

The UK/USC game wasn't even on the SEC Network, it's literally anything involving SEC teams. If you saw something cool at an Ole Miss/Missouri women's soccer game, recorded it, and posted it on the internet the SEC could have it taken down.

I think the word you are looking for is "If".

"If you post a clip of a video...."

So what do they do if we do it with a SEC game on ESPN or CBS? They have no control over that or what?

I gotta admit I'm a little bit confused given that there is such a thing as a Fair Use law which the SEC cannot control.
