to all of you SR folks who expressed condolences etc on Phillip Lutzenkirchens passing. A lot of us Aubies are hurting on this.

Gene Chizik said it best. Lutz was what you would aspire your son to be. Great person, good heart, great athlete, good student and a Christian who lived those values in an unassuming way. Thats a tribute to his parents as much as Phillip.

Lutz was from my area. Went to lassiter HS. I must say personally, I am especially appreciative of the comments from Georgia folks. I think maybe Lutz's passing and those kind thoughts lend to maybe a little healing in the rivalry between AU and UGA which to my mind had gotten a bit ugly in last 3 years or so.

Everyone is empathetic to this bad situation that AU is going through...but that statement is just silly.

Its terrible news, and the type of thing that puts football rivalries in perspective. Its a shame its things like this that are the only things that can brings rival groups together.

UGA lost a player in this accident as well.... Prayers to AU & UGA families.

It should but it won't.

Why in the world would you need to thank anyone?
Tragedy is painful--and something to which everyone can relate.
A terrible loss.
Be strong for each other and for that gentleman's family.

I would guess they'll try to do some sort of dual tribute at the game in Athens next year. That will at least make the game next year more amicable.

I wouldn't go so far as to say it will temper the rivalry long-term, but hopefully it puts it into perspective for some people.

That's a great idea - AU & UGA folks should petition your AD's to do this at the game.

I am sure the AD at UGA will plan a moment of silence.

Grew up in GA, alum of the other team, family lives in Ga...and a current student who also died.

Never underestimate the douchebaggery of this board.

Prayers to all affected by the loss of lives way too early. They were just getting started.

I agree with this. If 40 people dying in Tuscaloosa in 2011 did nothing to temper the UA/AU rivalry I doubt this is going to have any affect. It is tragic and a senseless loss for all the families, but as with everything else it will quickly fade away for those that only knew of him. He isn't the first "good character" former football player to die way to young and unfortunately he won't be the last.

A terrible tragedy but one that could have been averted. Wear those seat belts, people. We have two young men gone that could still be with us.
