If I was a bama fan, I'd be terrified of playing missouri in the SECCG, because at this rate there's no way Mccarron would be playing in the NCG.

some guy from volquest said on the radio this morning that if Furgeson was healthy, he would've played over Dobbs... crazy to think that this kid was probably 3rd on the depth chart at some point.

he did look good in limited time, but it's gonna be a lot harder moving forward... teams will gameplan to limit the read option stuff. defenses will scheme specifically for JD. bottom line is he'll have to pass to well for UT to beat decent teams... I don't see that happening, but we'll see.

Tennessee has been running a read option with a QB that can't run the ball. Opposing defensive ends and line backers have been crashing on the running back every play. After Dobbs' first carry, you could see Bama's players begin to hesitate, expecting him to keep the ball.

I guess the second positive thing would be, he looked like a better passer too. He's black, but he's most definitely a pass first QB.

ANOTHER hurt QB in the SEC. Didn't pay attention to the Vols vs Bama game.

Worley actually hurt his hand against USCe last week. He was playing with a taped thumb against Bama and reinjured it when he landed on it. Worley was having trouble gripping the ball all week. This has been a rough season for QBs in the SEC.

Based on what? He wen't 5/12 with 75 yards passing and 20 yards rushing with 4 dropped balls and a dropped TD pass as a true freshmen against the most loaded defense in the country.

His arm strength, accuracy and vision is better then Justin Worleys and you can tell that from 1 half. Like Jedfrey said, he's a pass first QB, not a run first. He'll do fine

I think our WRs were put off by the ball hitting them directly in the numbers and with pace, they're used to adjusting to Worley's ducks.

you answered your own question...

btw, passing game includes both QB and WRs... it's not very good right now, and may improve with Dobbs as the starter... but now teams will prepare and gameplan for him. he's still a true frosh who will make mistakes.

The fact that he should have been 9/12 for 150+ yards and a TD speaks poorly on his WRs dropping perfectly thrown passes. Not his inability to execute said passes

No way brah, no fricking way. It completely eluded my mind he controls the WRs ability to catch or drop a ball thrown right at the numbers. Thanks for the reminder though

He was so poised out there too.

How many other SEC teams start a QB that's majoring in aeronautical engineering. Astrodobbs may be the most intelligent player to ever don the orange.

@TomLuginbill: The #Vols need to go with Josh Dobbs & never look back. Build the whole offense and the future around him. They got something in that kid.

I agree Tom, I agree.

Does Ferguson look to transfer now that Dobbs will get half a season of experience under his belt?

I have read multiple times that Ferguson is actually better than Dobbs, but again- just rumors. People are saying Ferguson was hurt which is why he didn't go in despite Butch saying that wasn't why he didn't put him in.

Either way, I think it is an upgrade at the position. But I think deep down- I never thought we would get to hold onto Ferguson and Dobbs.

LINK /

Both were in Trent Dilfer's Elite 11.

Trent Dilfer on Riley Ferguson:
“In my opinon (he is) the most intuitive player in the class of 2013. A guy that makes all kinds of plays on-rhythm and off-rhythm. I was impressed when I saw him with his accuracy regardless of his foot-platform. A lot of guys can only be accurate in the first reaction game when their feet are right. Highly, highly productive. You see a guy who intuitively makes great decisions, knows when to extend the play and a guy who is going to light up the SEC at Tennessee.”

Trent Dilfer on Joshua Dobbs:
“You look at his tape, he makes difficult things look easy. He shows tremendous poise and then you put him in a competitive environment and you see him embrace the bigness of the moment. “

based on your retarded post, you needed a reminder.

the crowning of this kid by UT fans around the state this morning isn't surprising... just set up for disappointment.

Honestly, I don't see Ferguson sticking around IF Dobbs starts the remainder of the season and shows out. Remember there were rumors last year when Butch come in that Ferg would flip if he brought in another QB. And iirc, Ferg faxed his LOI in before Dobbs officially flipped to UT. And I've said all along that I think Dobbs will be the better of the two, no disrespect to Ferguson. There was a reason Butch went so hard after Dobbs even with Ferguson in the fold.

Either way, it's a good problem to have two talented freshman quarterbacks.

You take this shite way to seriously, and sound like a e-****. Which outside of Boy George, I didn't even know was possible until joining this establishment.

& Spare me the and "e-jabs" that you or your e-buds(?) might try and throw in. Zero fricks will be given. Thanks for letting us know the likelihood and success rate our QB will have throwing the ball in the future based off a half of play though. Really insightful stuff Nostradamus

I'm not the one crowning the kid after a 5/12 perfomance "against the most loaded defense in the country"... which is it?

you post like a high schooler.

5/12 doesn't do his performance justice. It may accurately represent the team as a whole, but not Dobbs. Anyone who watched the game has to acknowledge this.

agreed... it's why I watched the 2nd half to see how Dobbs looked and came away impressed (stated that earlier)... it's also why I said 'passing' earlier and not QB play.

passing is still going to struggle... howard needs to develop more as a true WR, and while North looks impressive, it's still a true frosh throwing to another true frosh... mistakes will be made.

Don't try and disparage the kid and take a little pot shot and this entire conversation wouldn't have even started. Either don't throw punches and expect not to get hit, or stay out of the fight.
