As I said when I first read the article on the Mizzou forum, you can really lay the death spiral the Big 12 is locked in at the feet of Texas and Oklahoma.

But for the sheer petulant arrogance and greed of those schools I think Colorado might have been the only school to leave the conference and that only because they have steadily identified more and more with the Pacific Coast over middle America.

I agree with you. In hindsight, adding the Texas schools to the Big Eight was disastrous. But the Big Eight had a real problem in the midst of the power conference arms race: tiny population base. Colorado, Missouri, Nebraska, Iowa, Kansas, and Oklahoma. Compared to the population bases of the other conferences, it was screwed in the long run. Especially when you consider that Colorado, the only school that brought a truly large metro following, wanted to bolt for the PAC as far back as I can remember.
