Of course you think Manziel is the better QB with better offense.

Clearly, we didn't need to open up the offense in the 2Q of the Aggie game. You could see that we didn't from yesterday when more of the playbook was used.

How are you liking your offense so far? Confident it will work in the SEC long term against the good defenses?

Iunno most Aggies are obsessed with Johnny, but I don't know how you could have watched that game last night and not thought Driskel is better. He was phenomenal, granted it was Tennessee, but he was still doing some incredible things.

I'm not obsessed w JFF, TeLeFaWx. But he reminds me much of our QB when I was an undergrad--Bucky Richardson. The similarities are outstanding.

We're not going to be world-beaters this season; but like I said, regardless of what unfolds, the kid is fun to watch.

I never watched Houston play but I thought their offense needed a pocket passer.

JFF may end up that but now he seems like a better runner than passer and would be better in a spread option type offense.

I'm not saying JFF sucks or can't be good for the sensitive Aggies.

They do, and I completely agree with this. And Johnny is going to have to get through series without relying on his legs so much, or the play book is going to have to change. Broken play, back yard football, while exciting and fun to watch, isn't going to get it done in the SEC. Johnny's TD to Swope and his second to EZ which were designed and executed need to be the norm, more so than his other broken play TDs. I will say this, against the slower SMU defenders, he was looking downfield to extended the play as opposed to just tucking and running like he did against the Gators. A marked improvement, that I want to see against SEC speed in a couple weeks.

And he reminds me a bit of Stephen McGee, and his alter ego, Captain Checkdown. Stephen was a phenomenal QB, but he had glaring faults with not getting through his reads and tucking and running or checking down to the running back far too early.

People have to be reminded, myself included that this kid has played 2 college football games in his career. His pocket presence is definitely an issue at the moment but the coaching staff knows this and it will only improve. There was already improvement from game 1 to 2 and there will continue to be. He definitely has the tools to be both a great runner and passer but needs experience. He made some great throws yesterday sitting in the pocket and getting hit and needs to do that a little more.

Every offense in America is going to use more of their playbook as the season goes on as their teams get comfortable and grow more experienced. To say that Florida intentionally withheld some of their offense because they were confident they were going to beat A&M anyway is unwise, or it came really close to biting them in the arse. That game was too close to hold things back if the offensive coordinator was confident his team could pull off the expanded plays.

Do I like our offense thus far? I have to say I like it a lot more now that Johnny took more shots down the field. The same dink and dunk passes you joke about now drove me freaking insane in the stands during the Florida game. But I understood why. Sumlin was breaking in a freshman QB. If you trot out a freshman QB, allow him too much freedom down the field, and he ends up throwing multiple interceptions your team is now being led by an insecure freshman QB. It wasn't worth it, IMO, and I'll take a close Florida loss if that means we get Johnny Manziel playing with confidence and slowly developing over the course of the season.

And I think our Fightin' Texas Aggie defense is pretty good, and Manziel won the starting position by making great plays against them. I think Manziel will surprise some people this year. Not saying we'll BTHO LSU or Alabama, but I think Manziel is going to make some plays that impress the hell out of football fans across the country. And if he drops the ball now and then, what the hell, it's his freshman season and half the country expects A&M to get rocked in their 1st year in the SEC anyway. I'll take freshman mistakes and some occasionally suspect offense this year in exchange for Manziel's 2013, 2014, and 2015 seasons in this offense.

I don't disagree. But I'm more than curious to see what Kliff Kingsbury can do with JFF.

I never said this but it seems that there's some truth to it. I wasn't confident and was wondering why we didn't try to do more. Obviously, the coaches had their reasons whatever they were.

I am too, but I have a question for you:

What if Johnny Football is more Tim Tebow than Tom Brady? What if we shouldn't build up the illusion that Johnny can ever become that guy perfectly suited for Kliff's offense? What if we should just apply a different offense while we have Johnny because his intangibles and ability running the ball isn't something we should try and contain or morph in to something else?
