As a Bama fan, I agree with Jeff Long. However, I do feel like the smallest of Saban's comments on many things can be taken to astronomical heights.

I agree. No one has cared about the bowls since the BCS was started. Honestly, I think Saban was just trying to sound diplomatic. He knows the BCS and playoffs are the true focus of the coaches, schools, and fans. He just wanted to sound like he cares about the smaller programs. Just my opinion. Much ado about nothing.

As usual, tRant overlooked his comments about how he feels it needs to be "one or the other" and not both. He feels it needs to be a bowl system or a full fledge playoff. I don't necessarily agree with that but I can see the point. It also should be noted that he felt similarly about the BCS system taking away from the other major bowls.

Well it's really hard to know that. Obviously we aren't tracking every single little thing that Saban says and recording whether or not it makes any waves in the sports media.

It is absolutely true that a lot of the significance of his sound bites are because he said them. If this had been said by the coach of a mediocre program it very likely would have gained no traction.

The problem I have with what Saban said is it sounds like sour grapes. I seriously doubt he would have made this criticism had he won the 2014 playoff. Is that fair of me? no, Saban could just be giving a candid answer to a question that was only asked because he didn't win. he may have always thought this with the same level of conviction, and he may have volunteered this opinion even if he had won. But those are hypotheticals.

The parallel between this self-interested criticism and the pace of play criticism is real. Both times Saban has presented his opinion as purely in the best interest of the sport, and he has expected us all to believe the personal benefits he and his program would gain if his vision was followed to be purely coincidental.

In just one year the new system has already proven its merit by preventing bama from claiming another undeserved fake football "championship".

It's not perfect yet, but certainly an improvement as it relates to accuracy.

I agree with Saban - there should be one or the other, not the current mishmash. I say get rid of all the bowls, and go to a full fledged playoff with 16 teams.

You mean that people care more about the playoff series than the New Orleans Bowl?

That's a travesty. Nicky is clearly right about this.

Restore the importance of the New Orleans Bowl immediately!!!!!

Shheeeeeshhh.

Nicky is Jeff Long's biatch.
