There was some confusion when Chizik 1st came in, if I remember the timeline, Willis was retained within a day or so. But the fact that he came back, says something does it not? And then, 2 weeks before signing day, he leaves for our arch rival?
Sorry, you would have driven to Tuscaloosa and started firing shots from Denney Chimes if the situation had been reversed.
*ETA* Willis, along with Coach Yoxall was officially retained on 12/26. Chizik came to AU on 12/14, had a meeting on the 15th with Tubby's old staff.

I actually kind of feel bad for the dude. Hell, he sells his soul to come to AU, and then gets absolutely hosed. He's not wanted in Tuscaloosa or Auburn, has to suck.

If I'm not mistaken, wasn't he told to leave, then under fire, brought him back, but with less pay and that is why he left when he did? I may have that wrong, but I thought that is what happened.

I heard he got less pay because Auburn gave Willis a severance package, and he spent the money in two weeks.

I think you're confused on the 'less pay' thing.... I believe every AU assistant coach is making more than their predecessors.
There was a misunderstanding between Willis and the athletic department... Willis was compensated after being let go. the dept. wanted the money back once it was decided he was coming back... I'm paraphrasing and could be wrong about that.
Regardless, it's water under the bridge now... I don't mind CJW leaving... I just wish the timing were better, although you gotta strike while the iron's hot, I guess.
