They might not be up for something like that but it would be a great gesture both fanbases could get behind.
whether or not they think they are or up for it is not relevant

I don't think you could risk a sad emotional breakdown on TV for a show about football. They may do a piece on the show about it but no one wants to see choked up family and parents when they are just looking to enjoy a football saturday

Show them a good gesture off camera if that is what they would like to do, don't blast them to the nation on live TV

I think it would be a ratings boon in Louisiana if Ritter is the guest picker and announces he will be officiating the game as well.

I agree, Ritter would be awesome.

He did that on his weather blog the day it happened. He apologized for being wrong.

The way he absolutely dismissed any chance of snow/ice was completely irresponsible. He was literally laughing off the idea as "wishcasting." People were put into legitimate danger due to his forecast. That was an epic cluster that should've led to someone losing their job.

Every weather forecaster in the south was predicting the same damn thing. Spann wasn't the only guilty party that day. Every forecaster in Georgia, Alabama, and Florida was telling their viewing audience that the weather wouldn't arrive until late and would be nothing more than a nuisance when it did arrive.

It's way too long and is thus filled with boring fluff. It was a great program when it was just 1 1/2 hours.

He did, but it didn't come across all that sincere to me. Instead of just saying he screwed up, he went on to excuse it away and say every other meteorologist got it wrong. I'm a JP Dice man, and while he also did get it wrong, he wasn't anywhere near as adamant as Spann was at saying there would be no travel problems.

So what? After 4/27/11 I can forgive Spann for almost anything. He saved a lot of lives that day.

That just tells me that JP Dice lacks confidence in his forecasting abilities.

I mean is it really an apology if it isn't sincere?

Sure. And a lot of other meteorologists saved lives that day as well. I don't really have a problem with him missing the "dusting" forecast. They all did. His smugness in the days following it just rubbed me the wrong way, and I've always had a problem with his lack of humility. He eats up his perch on the pedestal people in this state put him on.

Every weatherman did. They were projecting the snow/ice storm to hit south of the Birmingham area. However, even as Spann would tell you, forecasting snow in Alabama is unpredictable. With that in mind, all it took for that storm to hit Birmingham was a slight tick upwards and slight drop in temperature. But he wouldn't even acknowledge that there was a chance of it hitting Bham and told everyone who thought otherwise that they were "wishcasting."

Again, its not that he missed it. That happens. However he was flat out dismissive about anything happening in Birmingham and that led to many being so unprepared that day. My extent of weather knowledge goes about as far as my Accuweather app will take me, but I don't think it takes certification from the National Weather Service to think that if there is a winter weather storm forecasted for Montgomery, then maybe Birmingham should at least be on alert.

Don't get me wrong, I think that douche Mickey Ferguson a Fox 6 should've been held a little more responsible as well. He was laughing it off with a grin that morning with some 7 year old by his side.

Since I don't want to talk GameDay in here anymore, I'll join in the meteorology conversation again. I think the biggest problem, from what I've heard, is that a lot of the winter weather vehicles we have in Birmingham were sent down 65 to help out with what was forecasted to hit the Gump. It was the next morning before they could sand the roads here. If they had been able to prepare or even come in after the fact, it would have given plenty of people a little traction.

The biggest problem in downtown Birmingham was gridlock. The schools called for closing around 11 or noon. I forget which. My wife called and said she was on the way. I said fine, I'll be home tonight. It wasn't 15 minutes before she called again, saying her van was stuck going up a hill in Homewood. She tried a couple different ways, but was sliding, and didn't want to get in a wreck so she parked it where she could and went inside a bakery.

So I left, planning on going to get her, and then our kids. It took me 5 hours to get from the Financial district to just past Vulcan where she was working. I had plenty of traction and could drive anywhere I wanted to, but the roads were just clogged with several thousand vehicles. And the way downtown is set up, the only ways out are slightly up hill. Either interstate or red mountain ramps, or going up by Vulcan.

Again, if we had not stupidly sent our road crews south, due to ALL the weather folks getting it wrong, it might have made a difference.
