Bama fans, is Coker an upgrade at quarterback or a downgrade? I'm watching the replay of last year's game and just wondering about your opinions on this topic.

So far, downgrade.

Massive downgrade. Throws just like JPW.

Coker has more potential as a QB. Doubt he will unlock it.

Blake Sims had many mental mistakes at the beginning of the year.

After two starts, it's a push.

I don't think Bama fans were sold on Blake until the Florida game. I'm sure you could find threads from early last season about how terrible Blake was.

Push so far. Sims ability to escape and to hit on the deep ball almost tempt me to give him the nod. He was so awful on the road though. He shined in home games against the aggies and led the offense to 600+ yards vs Florida, but was pedestrian against Ole Miss and LSU. Hell he almost was benched in the Iron Bowl.

His success can be attributed to a combination of Lane's play calling and Amari Cooper having the best season imaginable.

Coker doesn't have Amari Cooper, but does have better overall skill talent. Kiffin has to shine at play calling if Coker is going to have success. He is very capable of calling a great game, but he can lay an egg as well. Having Coker go down field with his slow release is not going to be conducive to a successful day. Bama is going to have to hit some home runs in the run game with Drake.

Is it a type of deal where y'all feel that he will improve into a quality quarterback later in the year or is it at a point where y'all are hoping to win in spite of him/replace him?

It's very hard to tell after two games.

Blake was a baller but had a few rough games.

Coker has shown some good things so far, and he has shown some bad things. Sims was pretty much the same way last season at this point.

Coker has yet to show anything that would be considered an upgrade over Blake.

As slow as coker is at getting the ball out, I have a feeling he won't be starting much longer

They have different weaknesses. Kiffin did a great job of minimizing Sims' once we got into conference play. It's yet to be seen if he can do the same with Coker. We're going back to our roots offensively.

He's been a college QB for 4 years, the last year and a half of which he's been working with Lane Kiffen.

Yet he still lacks timing on short/medium routes, has a 5 second wind up, has no accuracy on the deep ball, and throws into heavy double coverage.

I have seen no evidence so far that he will ever be a serviceable QB.

Anybody calling it a push is totally disrespecting Blake and ignorant... We don't beat LSU or aU and had a chance to beat Olepiss had OJ used his size and athletic ability in the end zone.

Jake is maxed out... his size is not a talent... his slow delivery and decision making has kept him consistently in QB battles as much as his extremely strong arm has kept him in them. What is a strong arm and size if you don't know how to use them?

We need to get Bateman more reps cause Jake aint it.

A push? Please.
