Meanwhile another year has passed since LSU won anything of importance.

How many years are you allowed to hold onto 2007? You're creeping up onto a decade FAST. We'll stop if you stop.

From an OP which talks about the 90s basketball glory of the Hogs to this post. All in the same thread.

Ironic post is ironic.

3 of Arkansas' 6 Final Fours were pre- 90's. We are taking a holistic view of the program. I would be mad too if my school was a declared "basketball school" without a FF. Maybe someday....

So even longer ago.

We have never been a "basketball school." We were just better in the past at basketball than football - which wasn't hard to do.

I'd put Arkansas at #2 in SEC since they joined the SEC, along with Florida.
If we're talking all-time though (since Arky was in SWC) I'd rank the SEC basketball programs (not counting Arkansas, USCe, Mizzou and A&M):

1. UK

2. Tennessee
3. Florida

4. LSU
5. Alabama
6. Vanderbilt

7. Georgia
8. Ole Miss
9. Miss.State
10.Auburn

If we include all 14 teams historically:

1. UK
2. Arkansas
3. Tennessee
4. Florida
5. Mizzou
6. LSU
7. Alabama
8. Vanderbilt
9. Georgia
10.Ole Miss
11.USCe
12.A&M
13.Miss State
14.Auburn

Both Alabama and Tennessee have similar basketball programs. Both have been to the tournament 20 times and onnly had one appearance in the elite 8. Alabama's record in the NCAAT- 20-21, Tennessee's- 19-21. Alabama has the series lead over Tennessee, more wins in the SEC all time, and more conference tournament championships (6-4). Tennessee has the upper hand in conference regular season championships (9-7).

Idk how they would be considered better than Florida though as a basketball program. Florida has 8 elite appearances, 5 final fours, a runner up for the title, and then two national championships.

Just an opinion. I could be way off. (it IS basketball though.)
Georgia and Miss.State have been to a Final Four now that I think about it. Auburn was good with Barkley. Ole Miss in the last couple of years and with Glass....

That was my question as well that he chose not to respond to. Just like Wake with Tim Duncan couldn't pull it off but somehow he sees Mike Anderson pulling it off without the talent that '93 team had.

The 1994 National Championship Team had two High School Blue Chips if my memory is correct. Big Nasty and Darnel Robinson were for sure highly rated out of H.S. But, Nolan built his team with role players. Al Dillard was a 25 year old deep threat. Beck was a Juco Point Guard transfer ...Clinton McDaniel, Lee Wilson, Thurman, were GREAT but not blue chips out of college. These players were motivated by talent evaluators dissing them and they played smart but with a chip on their shoulder...This is well documented. There was ONE 1st rounder (Big Nasty)on the whole team. The team with MayDay, Big O and company had 3 1st rounders but only went to the Final Four once...Current Freshman PG Anton Beard is a perfect example of what Hawgball is all about. I believe he's 3 star out of HS but I wouldn't trade him for any college PG out there. He plays with a chip on his shoulder, intense focus, smarts and he is what Hawgball is all about.
