Semi-serious question, how many 2013 SEC teams would 1963 SEC Champs Ole Miss beat?
Not many...Most of those dudes would be around 70 now... :rimshot:

The only recent change would be subbing Tenn for USCe in the big 6.

big 6 status is based solely on SEC championships.

This is a common misconception. It has, coincidentally or not, turned out to be true that only Big 6 teams have won the SEC Championship game, but the Big 6 was created at the time of expansion with the league separating the Big 6 so as to create a balanced as practical split between the divisions of the conference.

Exactly. They took half the big timers and put em on one side, the other half on the other side. It just so happens that those 6 teams are the only real players in the SEC championship race as well.

No, the big 6 shaped the divisions we have today. 3 on each side. The SEC itself called these teams the "big 6" as well

and not sure if they did this on purpose, but they are the permanent cross division rivals of each other

They only get a 1/2 because MSU had to forfeit a game.. so yes it is a retro SEC championship... the only non-big-6 to win in the last 50 years... ?tied with UGA..

Recognized by the NCAA and the SEC. Sorry they didn't cheat well enough.

But using your logic we would've had another in '77 when we went undefeated in SEC play but wasn't eligible because of violations.

I'm not talking about SEC championship games, I am talking all time, history of the conference, the Big 6 are the teams that have won more often than they have lost against SEC competition, and thereby, more often than not, are the 6 teams that have won the conference championship.
I guess the "solely" part was off base a little bit though.
Not coincidentally, the "Big 6" all have an overall better than .500 winning percentage against SEC competition.
The other 6 (TAMU and Mizzou left out from lack of seasons) are all below .500.

For the record, both UGA and UK only had 1 conference loss that year, but UGA beat UK by 3 touchdowns for their loss. I know back in the day they just went by record so if you were inclined to give a split you could justify it..but I think we all know who the real champ was that year

It's more than that, IMO. Let's say missouri had won the SEC this year, would that make it the big 7?

Of course not. It's built on decades upon decades of history. The big 6 are clearly, unquestionably, the 6 best SEC programs all time historically.

I agree with this. It is not just about winning the SECC.

So, in other words ... Yale and Princeton are all-time Big 6 NCAA college football programs and always shall be.

Gotchca.

big 6 is the dumbest shite I have ever heard. Leave it to insecure fans of has been programs to claim they're big 6. (Tenn, UGA).

They're not remotely close to being big 6 worthy. They're middle of the pack little 6 and historically just a notch above Vandy(even though Vandy has SEC championships on their resume).Historical Bottom : UK-VU- then USCe-MSST-Ark-OM - I would put them at the top of the little 6 in recent years.

I appreciate the back-handed compliment for Vanderbilt, but we only have conference championships in the SIAA and Southern (the precursor conferences to the SEC). But yeah, we do have 14 of those, but no SEC titles.
