Conversely, how do you think Clemson beat Alabama? Less talent, better coaching.

Clemson beat Bama the same way others who have beaten Bama did. Elite QB play.

Not true in the slightest. Clemson was and still is highly talented and well coached

Completely true in the fullest.

Clemson's average rank was in the top 20, Alabama's was top 5. The spread offense beat Alabama, twice, in recent memory as the other was by Ohio State, which actually recruited top 5 pretty easily.

Yep elite QB play is it. Funny thing is that's the knock on Bama is losing to elite QB but elite QB beat everybody. That's why they're elite.

Agreed, the Bama model is virtually impossible to duplicate. You're gonna have to have at least 3/4 of
your roster made up of 4 and 5 stars and duplicate
the same recruiting effort every year.

Exactly. Spread isn't doing the damage, it's trying to be like Bama (Arkansas is a prime example, as well as LSU) that's doing us in.

I hope we return to the spread, but would love to have the type of offense Alabama runs if we eventually recruit well enough.

Yep. Nothing harder to defend than an elite QB who throws darts into tiny windows against solid coverage.

Means zilch. Clemson was full of NFL level players. They have the best Dline in cfb this year, arguably last year too. They had the better QB, receiving corps, and defensive backfield in last years game. D-line was a wash.

we are going to be really honest, the SEC didnt exactly rule the roost before Saban came to LSU. From 1980-2000, the SEC had 3-4 titles

Got 4 titles and played for another 3 and Big 8 had 5.
Independents probably ruled the roost back then jusy because they could set their schedule and didn't have share TV or Bowl revenue

Spurrier and Fulmer were both elite coaches in the 90's.

An elite coach 1) would win a title with Peyton Manning and 2) wouldnt get run off before he was ready to retire

Fulmer was in the same category as Les Miles: good coach
