Heed this warning, these little cute RPOs and Spread formation packages have really hurt the league in general. Yes a few teams incorporated the Spread early on and won NCs, but the Floridas and Auburns used it to create space for running advantages opportunities. It's nice to score 40 points a game on Offense, but it's at a cost of leaving your defense on the field for 70 to 90 plays a game. What set the SEC apart years ago was the ability to win/control the line of scrimmage thus controlling the game. People keep pointing to Coaches and to a certain degree it does fall on them.. but the Culture has changed in the SEC from every first down and point scored meaning something to 20 to 14 game is frowned upon now. We can laugh at Clemson goofy antics but they being built like a Mid late 00's SEC team any well knowledgeable SEC fan can see that from a far. Harbaugh is a staple in the south now recruiting Big OL/DL kids that normally went to the LSU, Bama, Florida or Auburn other SEC schools. The truth hurts but we are a middle of road conference right now until bring back our physicality and toughness to our beloved league.

Blame high school. 95% of HS graduates cone from that kind of system.

Saban signs or processes the other 5%.

Harbaugh doesn't have as many recruiting wins in the South as you're making it out to be.

you know that basically every school in the country uses the spread and a lot of teams in the NFL use its concepts as well right?

Paragraphs?

Pshaw.

Bama fans have to figure out the opposable thumb first.

Baby steps...baby steps....

Florida needs to go back to it. Spread the field to create running lanes as you said.

Fun N gun not so much. But Meyer's spread was quite strong in the SEC.

Auburn runs that offense and has the #2 defense in the nation right now. I agree the spread is stupid, but I'm pretty sure that point has been disproven now.

So Clemson's offense was lIke UT or UF in the mid 90's
or UF in mid 2000's or even LSU when the won in '07?

You sure about that?

Sure, they recruit big, fast athletes just like EVERY other championship team that existed forever in CFB

My apologies I forgot this was grammar school football message board, I guess. I can't believe it's guys on here that still worry about punctuation marks and sentence structure on a message board of all places. My next thread will have pop up pictures and GIF of the same stuff that normally posted. I hope I can be forgiven. :)

I'm actually going to make a counterpoint:

I think most schools who have lesser talent use the Spread to off-set the Star/Blue Chip power of greater schools.

The bigger problem is that people are trying to emulate Alabama when they don't have the same types of players, the same talent -- like Will Muschamp at Florida. Took a team built for the spread and wanted to be like Papa Bama and we ended up damn near killing our program.

Conversely, how do you think Clemson beat Alabama? Less talent, better coaching.

I think there's a bit of truth in what you say. We're just like the rest of the country now.

Plus the coaching talent has plummeted.

Agreed, the Bama model is virtually impossible to duplicate. You're gonna have to have at least 3/4 of
your roster made up of 4 and 5 stars and duplicate
the same recruiting effort every year.

The game changed. If we are going to be really honest, the SEC didnt exactly rule the roost before Saban came to LSU. From 1980-2000, the SEC had 3-4 titles. During the run the SEC got some elite coaches in Saban/Meyer, two of the greatest QBs in cfb history, and some lucky breaks to win as many titles as it did.

RPOs and spread formations have zero to do with what's going on in your league.

Not true in the slightest. Clemson was and still is highly talented and well coached
