I saw this kid kick in HS. I thought he would be an All American by now. Not trolling, but kicker has been sort of an achilles heel for you guys.

sort of an achilles heel? That's being way, way too overly generous.

A merely reasonably competent kicker and Bama wins the 'game of the century' in 2011 (4 missed FG, 3 by Foster) and the 2013 Iron Bowl (3 missed by Foster before the Kick-6). It would have also played a part in the Sugar Bowl loss (missed short FG right at the half).

Kicking woes have robbed Bama of an undefeated season one year and a SEC-W title (and thus possible NC game appearance) in another.

That's part of what's being held over Griffith's head. Any miss is judged by what's happened with Foster, but even playing hurt he's still kicking better than Cade and nailed a make or die kick at night in Baton Rouge. I really, really think he's got a chance to be right there with the likes of Leigh Tiffin and Philip Doyle.

when was the last time Alabama played another school in the state OOC?

Why does that concern you so much?

Odd, those usually don't arise til the offseason when it's time to #process some inventory.

Or they're really hurt. The kid was perfect (something like 12/12) before it came up.

On another note--why didn't they drop down to FCS or something?

They were D-III at one time and should have stayed there or at least gone no higher than FCS. The cost of playing FBS football has exploded and isn't going to go down. There are going to be a lot more of the programs that made the jump to FBS in the last 15-20 years facing the same decision UAB just made.

And it won't be the last. People will notice that they'll still be just as good a University without it, and little by little the sentiment against football as we know it will grow.

Watch out Auburn. Bama may lobby to do away with your football program as well.

Doubt it. With the autonomity for the P5 there will be a P5 division, a G5 division then FCS within 10 years.

This is understandable from Alabama's perspective, but it also really blows for the players on their team. I feel for them.

My honest guess is that they don't like being portrayed as the villain and have taken it out on UAB.

But, I'm sure some of them just mimic what the UA powers that be want, and that is to destroy UAB's program for some reason.

If this was Troy or Jacksonville state you could not care less that they were shutting down football. It's only because in your mind you can use this to flame Bama that you care at all.

UAB won't have any sports other than intramurals by 2020.This will slowly erode all of their programs, which is part of the entire plan.

UAB wants to blame Alabama (and Paul Bryant, Jr. specifically) for its programs problems, but the real culprit is UAB. They complain that the Board of Regents wouldn’t dip into Alabama’s athletic profits and drop $75 million on them to build a 30,000-seat on-campus stadium, and they didn't even know how they were going to pay the utility bills on a stadium. The truth is that Blazer students just wouldn't show up even though Legion Field is within sight of campus.....Good on the Board of Trustees for keeping the University of Alabama system financially strong with this decision.

UAB will be the first of many to do this, especially now that other universities can point to UAB as precedent. The Obannon lawsuit is going to cause many programs in a similar situation as UAB to either discontinue or drop to a lower level. It was stupid that UAB and similar schools were trying to compete at the same level as Alabama, LSU, etc in the first place.

It's a smart move by UAB. They can now channel the football money they were spending into basketball and try to become the next Wichita St, Cincinnati, Memphis, etc. Football was bringing nothing to that institution and if anything it was making the national image of UAB synonymous with failure.
