This is really dumb. He turned down offers last year and has a better resume than at least 12/14 of the league's current coaches.

Hasn't made it out of the first weekend since 2009 at UCLA. Keep that in mind.

All he has to do is get there. Have you seen State the last several years? They would kill to make it to the round of 64 and get blown out. That's not a slight either. That's how bad they have been

I thought he made 3 Final Fours while at UCLA, not 2.

No kidding. The point is he did that with UCLA. He isn't bringing UCLA to Starkville. He isn't bringing Westbrook, Farmar, Love, or Shabazz either.

from 12'-15' coach K has lost twice in the first round. I don't see anybody taking away from his past accomplishments because of it...point being a good coach usually will always be a good coach.

Basketball is a funny sport. MSU is not UCLA in prestige but neither was Memphis until Cal

We've had a final 4 appearance in the past. We have had success before but I don't expect many people on this board to acknowledge that, or even be aware of it.

Well, he's about to step into a basket of 4 stars and probably Malik Newman.

The fastest way to get run out of this argument is to compare Howland to Krzyzewski. That's laughable in every way. When is the last time he missed the tournament for instance?

Didn't say he was. Just used an example of not making it out of the first weekend doesn't mean you are now a bad coach.

Got a good one. Never understood his firing from UCLA. Had to be some hidden details there.

You must be forgetting how he got the UCLA job in the first place. It is because he took a shitty Pittsburgh program and won the very tough Big East twice in 4 years. Hell, he STILL won the Pac 10 even in his last year at UCLA.

I don't think any MSU fan is expecting him to bring them to the Final Four in the next year or two. But you certainly have to think that he can better their program just like he did at Pitt.

Good hire for State. IMO, them and AU pounced on good opportunities to hire good coaches who were run out of their previous jobs not because of poor on-court results, but because of other issues

Howland was run out because of his personality and the lack of winning in March. UCLA was knocked out of the first round three straight years. Then the shitstorm that was Shabazz Muhammad showed up.

You never know but success in other areas of the country does not necessarily mean you can recruit and win in the SEC. Of course I speak as an LSU fan who suffered through the Trent Johnson era. Johnson had a sparkling resume before coming to LSU. Four NCAA tournament appearances and two sweet sixteen's.

But I think you have to understand the Southern lifestyle and have local connections to recruit in the SEC unless you are a team like Kentucky with a national reputation.

Mississippi has had and does have some great basketball talent. You have to convince them to stay home.
