Is this the worst the SEC's been in Basketball since '92?

Couldn't care what you losers were doing in hoops before we joined up and gave the conference some respectability on the hardwood.
Only Kentucky is ranked. Florida would be 31st in the AP poll.
In the coaches poll the SEC is thought of a little better, with Florida being a little closer to the Top 25 and A&M got 4 votes and Arkansas 1. We got as many votes as Cal-Bakersfield. pitiful.
I thought schools across the conference had invested in hiring good coaches the past couple seasons and built a bunch of new facilities.
I enjoyed when Bama, Auburn, LSU, MSST, Vandy, Florida, Tennessee, UGA all had respectable basketball teams. It's not like there's not talent down here. Is everyone getting burnt by 1 and done players? or is the coaching sucking balls?

Did this all ever occur at the same time? Serious question.
UGA has only been mediocre since Fox got here and after that I think only the Wilkins era in the 80's was our last good run

yeah mid-90's had some great battles. As Arkansas fell off the rest of the SEC seemed to as well.

I was born in '95 so I lack the experience of that era
I just wish UGA could have a program that would compete for an SEC regular season title every 4-5 years. Tourney titles aren't that big (per se) considering how we fell arse backwards into one in '08.

It seems like the SEC never has more than a couple great teams most years. We'll have lots of average to good teams that can put scares in great teams, but we're just not a basketball conference and probably never will be.

Auburn has been horrible my entire lifetime. Except for the Chris Porter years. (Hell, I dont even remeber is Chris Porter is even his fricking name. Thats how long its been) and they still were not that good

I posted a thread recently about Chris Porter still playing ball.

Alabama was a perennial top 10-15 program for about 20 years (70's and 80's into the early 90s) before falling apart after Wimp Sanderson got fired.
They had a brief 4-5 year renaissance in the early to mid 2000's under Gottfried but outside of that we've been pretty damn mediocre or just bad since Wimp left.

No.
Kentucky, UF, A&M, and UGA should all be in the NCAA tournament this year.
The league as a whole is better than the last 2 seasons, regardless of what the records show.

Alabama and Auburn are upping our game and signed great recruiting classes. The future for both programs is bright. $$$

No. I think it was 2008 or 2009 right after the great Gator teams that the league had nobody in the top 25 for a good part of the season. Those were the worst years. But a couple of seasons later, UK beat the favored Buckeyes in the Sweet 16 and the league is starting to make strides. But so much about college basketball is the coaching. And with Billy' Donovan in the NBA now, you don't have too many marquee names. But you should get about four teams in the tournament this year. It may never have the depth of the ACC, Big East or Big Ten but it will be solid.

The last 3 years the SEC middle of the pack and lowers has just sucked, it's not just this year. Seriously hurt's the # 4 and 5 teams of the conference getting a bid.
Kind of nuts that Bama has a top 3 class coming in, may be wasted.

Sadly SEC basketball has been bad for a while.

I don't think it is bad this year really.
There are still 6 undefeated teams in the league. Kentucky, Florida, Arkansas, South Carolina, all could be tourney teams. Georgia doesn't look bad. Ole Miss looked pretty good in their first loss to Creighton. Probably should have won.
There is a good slate of games today to see where some of the teams are at.
Arkansas @ Minnesota
Auburn vs. Texas Tech
Georgia vs. Kansas
Tomorrow has another pretty good slate
Wichita St. vs. LSU
Michigan @ South Carolina

Off the top of my head 09 was the worst. We won the regular season championship but were only an 8 or 9 seed in the tourney. I think there was only one other SEC team that got a bid that year

The only reason Arkansas was brought into the conference was to strengthen basketball. and it worked for a period....but soon after, they became slumpbusters to the worst program in the conference historically, ole miss. consequently, the SEC is weaker today than it was before Arkansas joined. and we have the hogs to thank for that....thank them, everybody

1. It is Chris Porter.
2. Those jerseys are awesome.
3. I remember him having a monster dunk on (I believe) LSU's Jaime Lloread.
4. This is Porter now.
