We have turf because Petrino wanted it. He hated our practice fields we had at the time because they were freaking sloped downhill one way. He also hated that you could see in the practice area easily. He always practiced inside the stadium because he said it gives your offense an advantage at home due to familiarity.

Our turf always screwed up towards November anyway. I don't care regardless but something tells me if Bielema sticks around, we will be back on grass in a few years.

When players are used to it and know how to play on it, its usually not a problem, so you wouldnt see a lot of injuries from the home team. Its generally the away team that has issues since they dont play on it all the time. I am aware that teams have indoor practice facilities that are turf but they generally only use them in bad weather conditions or when they are trying to recreate closed in spaces with lots of noise.

every SEC team has turf somewhere in there practice facility. Players are used to it. The old astroturf was horrible for knee injuries and such. The new stuff is better and getting better, but it will probably never equal grass.

The South End Zone overhang keeps grass from growing down there at that end late in the year.

This is 100% the reason.. Because of the way our stadium faces.

not only did I read the article I did a report on it my senior year at LSU (I was a kins major). The turf industry did a study that says it is safer, somewhat of a conflict of interest but there is also this study that says that soccer players have similar injury rates. LINK

just embrace sucking for one season and stop melting.

Everyone defends their own until proven otherwise - just the way it is here.
Arkansas and Iowa both have turf, but I think grass is far superior, so I am not defending my teams.
