This should be called the Payton theory. Comparing UTk with Tee Martin in 98 would make a better case for Bill.

He does use the Peyton case as an example of the effect.

No. They will be more balanced on offense, but that's it. Need to see if that defense improves any.

Let's ask how Florida at Auburn did immediately after losing Cam and Tebow.

I could see this happening with A&M this year. I could see them at 2nd or 3rd in the West.

When does this happen in football? In what time did a do everything juggernaut of a QB leaving make anytime better?

They'll struggle for 4th or 5th place.

I think there's a really good chance it could happen.... defense almost has to be better, and the offense will still be potent. Less relying on JFF to scramble and make plays may be a good thing.

That's not intended to be pompous, it's just reality.

The reality is we can pull any five star receiver out of New Orleans we want, whenever we want.

Peyton Manning? UT won the MNC w/ Tee Martin the year after RoboQB left.

No one's saying A&M is going to win the NC, or even the SEC, but it's not impossible for a team to lose an all-time QB and still play better the next year.

I think we're more likely to take a step back for a year, but that's not set in stone.

I think it was answered literally two or three posts above yours: Peyton Manning.

Bama, Auburn, LSU are top three however you want to put it.

MSU, Ole Miss, and TAMU will fight for 4th-6th.

both Mississippi schools are loaded on offense and defense. Y'all just lost the middle of your defense and your DL is suspect. The offense will be still good, but won't be close to what is was last year.

Didn't y'all just lose more defense players over this offseason? The offense will still be good I'm not arguing that. What I am saying is that it is highly unlikely y'all will be better in the win column.

As if you or anyone else has a clue how the teams will finish.
But the certainty with which you speak is super impressive.

And you lost your quarterback, running back, and two best wide receivers.

... here is the Ewing Theory.

A theory hashed by ESPN.com writer Bill Simmons and his friend Dave Cirilli. It that explains the reason why teams inexplicably become better after their star player leaves the team for any reason (trade, injury, etc.). Two elements must be present for a situation to be explained by the Ewing Theory: 1) The team has a star player who receives a lot of attention but never wins anything, and 2) The star player leaves the team and everybody writes the team off.

I've been saying this about why SCAR will be better after losing Clowney during the entire off-season.

ETA: But of course some Aggie fans seems to think it might only apply to them in the opener, but not SCAR.

Basketball Theory =/= Football Theory

I can't see them having such high scoring games as they did with JFF. He was the offense and the Defense thanks to the wall of points he generated.

Peyton Manning did what a lot of good pocket passers do, pass very well. He is not a threat in the run game.

Manning had 3820 pass yards 36 TDs 11 ints AND -30 rush yards and 3 TDs

Cam had 2850 pass yards 30 TDs 7 ints AND 1470 rush yards and 20 TDs

Tebow had 2900 pass yards 21 TDs 5 ints AND 900 rush yards and 14 TDs

Manziel had 4100 pass yards 37 TDs 13 ints AND 760 rush yards and 9 TDs

When your QB is the one of the biggest parts of your run game AND dominates in the pass game (all these guys except for Manning had over 9 ypa and both Cam and Manziel had over 10 ypa), it is hard to maintain consistency.

The OL isn't really going to drop off... the WR's are just more talented... and the RB's might actually get to run the ball. QB is a question mark, but the talent is there.

On defense the DL will be better as a whole(especially DE), though DT will be worse... the LB's cannot be any worse... and the DB's should be a lot better coached.

We would have been in pretty decent shape overall, but the loss of Golden and Claiborne just destroyed the depth we were building in the front seven. Now, 2015 should show a MAJOR talent infusion on the defensive side of the ball - but they'll still be underclassmen.

A&M loses four or five this year, starting with USC in the first game

Ewing Theory is just the name. This applies to every sport. Not hard to understand.

Because Sumlin has lead top offenses almost every season he has coached. Spurrier doesn't really have a history of number one overall picks every single year. Sumlin has coached 3 Heisman winning QBs.

West, you guys have finished 3rd and 4th in the west with 1st round talent at QB, OL, and WR. Granted, other teams will be replacing talent as well. However, the programs ahead of you have been recruiting at a high level for a very long time. You guys have only recently started stacking talent. Your guys are young.

Recruiting Rankings:
2010 - 19
2011 - 35
2012 - 16
2013 - 9
2014 - 5

*according to 247sports.com.

I wouldn't look at your standings prior to 2010.
