We pushed FSU to the limit? Blew opportunity after opportunity in that game, and made Jameis shite his pants unlike any other time in his career

I agree with this. Keeping the squads the same, UF would win this 5 out of 10 games, and this is a playoff FSU team vs. a very down UF team. UF didn't embarrass the SEC.

No one said they embarrassed the SEC. That's the point. The #1 team in the nation is supposed to beat a down Florida team. It doesn't prove anything. A bunch of bottom-tier SEC teams lost to a bunch of ranked opponents on Saturday. I mean, maybe the SEC is down, but those games don't prove anything.

Auburn beating K State is more meaningful than any of those losses.

Depends on matchups. Georgia could probably beat Maryland or Iowa but would probably lose to Minnesota, Wisconsin, or Michigan State.

At this point they probably lose to Iowa or Maryland too.

Iowa is a toss up. Would take a shocking upset to lose to Maryland. Wait a minute.....

One way to evaluate popular perception of the SEC is to look at Vegas point spreads prior to kickoff. Since point spreads are designed to be as close to what the public perceives as even odds, they serve as a decent heuristic for what the public thinks are fair predictions for the games. Then we compare the results to the spread and see how well the SEC fared.

I'm not sure how accurate this site's odds are, so if you find they're off please feel free to correct me. But according to this...

The spreads:
Kentucky +13.5 at Louisville
South Carolina +4.5 at Clemson
Georgia -10.5 vs Georgia Tech
Florida +7 at Florida State

(Note: I rewrote the Georgia Tech one for consistency's sake.)

The results:
Kentucky 40, Louisville 44 (Kentucky +4)
South Carolina 17, Clemson 35 (South Carolina +18)
Georgia Tech 30, Georgia 24 (Georgia +6)
Florida 19, Florida State 24 (Florida +5)

We can subtract the actual spread from the expected spread to see how well the SEC teams did compared to expectations.

Kentucky: +13.5 - +4 = +9.5 relative to expectations
South Carolina: +4.5 - +18 = -13.5 relative to expectations
Georgia: -10.5 - +6 = -16.5 relative to expectations
Florida: +7 - +5 = +2 relative to expectations

So we can see Kentucky clearly outperformed expectations, Florida slightly outperformed expectations, and Georgia and South Carolina shite the bed.

If we want to get an overall measure, we could sum the performances relative to expectations. We'd get -18.5. So yeah, I'd say the SEC underperformed expectations and we can expect its street cred to take a slight dive.

Honestly, it probably already should have, but if it hasn't yet this doesn't help.

Alabama is propping up the myth of SEC superiority (well, that and ESPN). The success of A&M and Mizzou should be enough evidence of that.

The SEC is slightly better than other conferences, and the computer conference rankings back that up (see Sagarin and Massey). But not by much.

It has already started. SEC East took a big dump on the SEC this past weekend.

The east has been horrible this season and I have always wondered why hasn't Vanderbilt been replaced yet

I was thinking this when the east got themselves swept by the ACC.

The only upset was Georgia. The others turned out like they were predicted to go. (although some were closer than expected with KY and FL hanging with the heavy favorites.)

The Auburn > Kansas State and LSU > Wisconsin wins are what's holding up any significance of the SEC right now. WVU turned into a pile. MSU played no one, A&M played no one. Nobody will say it, but Ole Miss over Boise and Memphis are good wins, Boise specifically.
