Maybe because everyone knows Bama will win it. CFB feels very anticlimactic to me this year.

Wouldn't shock me if this was at least a small part of a ratings dip. Plus, it's unrealistic to expect more growth as cord-cutters continue to grow in numbers.

But college football for the most part has that NBA feeling to it where you know that no matter what happens in the regular season, Alabama is going to be in the finals and likely beat whoever they line up against.

Weren't these three the ABC prime time game? That would explain a lot. Bama Ole miss was middle of day and Bama USC was a freaking blowout. These games were tight prime time games on network television. I would expect bigger ratings from them. I imagine Bama LSU will have higher ratings than all of those if both win Saturday.

SEC Network took away a lot of network ratings/viewers.

If I remember correctly, the highest-rated SEC games from last season were Bama-LSU, Bama-A&M, the Iron Bowl, the TSIO, and LSU-A&M. Only one of those games has been played so far this year. Don't go throwing yourself off any bridges just yet.

Louisville/Clemson had star power and was a thriller

Michigan and Ohio State have more fans than most SEC schools

That's what I got

If LSU and Bama win out before they meet up, it will be the 7 PM CBS game and it will have the highest ratings of the year.

Losing popularity? hell no....

In 2010, there were five regular season SEC games that attracted more than 7.5 million viewers. Here were the Top games of the 2010 season (prior to the bowls):

1. Auburn @ Alabama- 12,520 M viewers
2. S. Carolina vs. Auburn- 10,093 M viewers
3. Boise State vs. Virginia Tech- 9,999 M viewers
4. Nebraska vs. Oklahoma- 8,981 M viewers
5. Florida @ Alabama- 8,595 M viewers
6. Georgia @ Auburn- 8,262 M viewers
7. Alabama @ Arkansas- 8,138 M viewers
8. Arizona @ Oregon- 7,787 M viewers
9. Alabama @ South Carolina- 7,662 M viewers

So in 2010, six of the Top 9 games of the college football season were SEC vs. SEC... five of those were regular season games.

That's 5 regular season SEC game garnering over 7.5 million viewers. This football season has so far produced just one SEC matchup with over 7.5 million viewers.

When you compare the stats to the top rated games so far this season, it appears viewership for the SEC is down since that time, but viewership for games outside the SEC region seem to be sharply up.

I just think this is interesting.

Ohio State is the biggest television draw right now in college football. No doubt.

I think the SEC hit its peak in popularity from about 2007-2010. There was so much competition back then. LSU won the title in '07. Florida in '08. Bama in '09. Auburn in '10. Not to mention there were so many unbelievable athletes and characters. You had Tim Tebow and Cam Newton taking over games. And on the coaching side, you not only had Nick Saban but Urban Meyers at Florida, Les Miles at LSU, and Mark Richt at Georgia. Even South Carolina had a coach that made people want to tune in.

I think the SEC is suffering right now from a lack of competition. No one wants to tune in and watch Bama win games by 40 points. But there seems to also be a lack of familiar coaches and players on the sidelines. While Bama has dominated the past few years, they've had a new QB for four years in a row. Outside of the loyal fans who are going to watch no matter what, I think this lack of familiarity is causing a lot of the casual viewers to look elsewhere.

Also when you consider the fact that those were the ONLY games played on those days, it's no wonder they got great ratings. People were starved for college football and they want to watch good football.

I think the Bama/aTm game will have good ratings this weekend. #1 vs #6 will get viewers.

It should, if its competitive after halftime it should produce the best ratings of the year for CBS. Not just because it would be a good game between two highly ranked teams, but because the competition during that window is weak to say the least. Purdue vs. Nebraska and TCU vs. West Virginia are the two main games going on at the same time (ABC split coverage). FOX will be airing the UCLA vs. Utah game, which again shouldn't draw too many folks away.

I can't speak for anyone else, but the older I get, the less I care. I watch if I don't have any other plans, but I don't make plans around games anymore.

It's called growing up. It's natural. Prior to this season I haven't missed a home SEC AU game since 2008. I just don't have the shits to give anymore. I went to NCG in 2014. You start to really understand it's a bunch of kids and why in the actual frick would you put any real investment in the game.
