At first this makes me chuckle, then cackle a little bit and then I break out into a straight up belly laugh.

I'm been around too long for delusions, sonny. As a matter of fact, I was around when Bryant and Vaught were mutually competitive.

Bryant had wanted to coach an integrated team at aTm, but his proposal was flatly rejected ("If we're last in the conference to integrate, then we'll be last in the conference"). He was able to overcome similar resistance in Tuscaloosa, and everyone knows it wasn't easy.

Vaught expended much of his energy recruiting the gritty farm boys that were necessary to win, despite the Ole Miss fanbase's insistence that football was a prep school sport. He didn't have much energy left to convince the bastion of conservatism that remaining competitive would require moving along with the times.

When I was a student at Ole Miss, we waved the second battle flag of the Army of Tennessee at football games, insensitive to the possibility that the flag might be offensive to the very athletes we were rooting for. Our mascot on the sideline was a caricature of a plantation owner. Everyone understood why the typical score against Bryant was 0-40, but maintaining traditions was more important than winning football games.

Once we finally decided it was time to sit at the big boys' table again, we implemented the changes outlined in my previous post. The result: overcoming four decades of irrelevance in four years.

I realize many of the younger members here, who have never known a time when Ole Miss football was not in the cellar, cannot force their millennial minds to accept the inevitable, but your denial changes nothing. Welcome to the New Normal.

Except that you haven't. Win something. Anything. And maybe I'll take a listen. But until then you are just blowing smoke. Go put up another SEC West co-champion banner or a few more stepping stones on the Walk of Chumpions. I'm not buying it.

A school that hasn't had a winning program in half a century finally gets tired of seeing the schools around them win, hires a puppet for a coach, and then uses its powerful boosters to steer recruits to said school.

The parallels are striking. SMU, who hadn't been recruiting at a high level at all, suddenly starts pulling in top tier classes like it was nothing. The same thing happened with Ole Miss when Hugh Freeze got there. Hmm....

Um no, SMU wasn't paying their players to lose 3+ games a season

TL;DR.

Bottom line, you're cheating and one day you will get caught.

They're not rich or snobby enough to be in SMU's class.

They also didn't get the governor involved in cheating.

I hate to be the one to break it to you bud, but Hugh Freeze beat Bama two years in a row with less talented players. Whether or not Ole Miss is blatantly cheating, Freeze is a damn good ball coach.

So what happened with Memphis and Florida? Guess he just isn't that good.

The truth? Bama would actually struggle with teams like Baylor and TCU. Teams that can run a fast paced high scoring offense have always given Saban troubles. OM was set up very similar to that style offense. It didn't surprise me one bit that they beat Bama, but it also didn't surprise me one bit that they lost to Florida and Memphis.

You can build a team to specifically beast another team. Just build it around their weakness.

This really is the pinnacle of OM achievements isn't it? I mean, woah..... you beat Bama.... So has Vandy. It doesn't make you the GOAT team. Let it go man...

Success is relative.

After four decades of sitting idle, you don't go from zero to 60 overnight.

Fans of programs that have made it to the top in the modern era have become accustomed (some would say "spoiled") to the bar being raised to such a high level. When the team fails to repeat, they want to fire the coach after a 5-3 conference record.

Ole Miss went from 0-8 to 6-2, topped it off with a Sugar Bowl win and is bringing in a top 5 class. After wandering in the wilderness for so long, we don't need a trophy to exult in our football program's success.

I'm sorry you have a short attention span. Doesn't the University of Alabama teach reading comprehension?
