You don't need as much money as they have. You just need as much as they are willing to pay. Which every SEC school has now.

Why do people keep trying to give us Muffin? We don't want him.

I have no idea ~ Florida needs a proven winner, a coach that has proven he can win at a high level consistantly. Why the hell would UF go after a coach that hasn't even taken a team to ATL?

- His family likes Starkville.
- They probably bought his house for him.
- He makes pretty good money and will make even more after this year.
- He is building something at State.
- I am certain he believes he can stay as long as he wants in a career where you can get fired any December that comes along, even after you had a pretty good year running the business.
- Any salary improvement that MSU can't match will be bigger than anyone will offer him.
- He has discovered that he can recruit and that was about the only problem he had in the past.

He is close to Thetan status and likely will stay at least util he achieves that before mother-shipping away

This is why he's safe (Foley would not do that with Dan)and this is also why a very large spending spree could be coming.

Smaller schools will force bigger schools to spend more. The big schools may do that and then the money we all enjoyed from the SECN is now marginalized because we are all just spending more. All that money will just be used up.

Unless Mullen wins the damn national championship this year, MSU won't need to match a salary like UA or UF pays.

For LSU's sake, I hope so. For State, I hope not. The guy is a great coach and you deserve it...

This is where you should have paid closer attention in economics.
Paying coaches has proven to provide a good ROI. A good coach brings in way more than their salary takes away. Now, with TV contracts the coaches salaries aren't that big of a hit to the bottom line. Unless some other school is willing to make Saban's paycheck look like a bellboy's tip then State will match. It would be financially stupid not to. Yet, it would be financially stupid for another school to overpay and look like a dumbass if it doesn't go as planned.

Well, for one thing Florida's offense has sucked deadman's dick since Mullen left. But, then again that's why Foley approached Mullen prior to hiring Muschump. Are you guys stupid enough to think that Florida's first choice was the chumpster?

FWIW I like Mullen and I hope he stays. He seems like a nice guy. I liked watching him build a quality team over there, and it's nice to see an "underdog" finally prevail...except vs. LSU starting next season.

Good luck the rest of the season!

Florida (if Muschamp is fired) would be a better job. Michigan (if Hoke is fired) would be a better job.

I'm sure Muschamp and Hoke thought so, too.
What you folks don't realize is that people don't want to go to schools that constantly fire coaches. Furthermore, no one wants to be the 3rd or 4th most revered coach at a school.

Succeeding at Florida, Bama, Michigan, etc doesn't mean crap. There are a thousand coaches that think they could win there... and likely could. Winning at Miss State makes you a legend. Mississippi State is his -- it's what he's worked to build. That's why competitive people do what they do. He damn sure doesn't want to be a coach at a school whose fans wear houndstooth hats to games pining for coaches past.

UF constantly fires coaches? Winning at FL wins you won't be a legend here? I think Spurrier would disagree.

If we wanted him, we'd have him. That's good for you guys since we don't.
