major programs see what happened to Mushchamp and will stay away from any Defensive mind HC Coach for a while.
I'd hate to have a coach that has been taught the "Saban formula". Seven years of learning from Nick Saban could not possibly be benificial to a potential Head Coach.

Not unit they consistantly figure out how to stop the HUNH.
The HUNH offensive approach is shite. Sure, you'll score alot but the HUNH ruins the remainder of the team structure. HUNH is a flicking gimic and has no chance to stay around for any lenght of time.

I think interest in Smart dropped off a lot because of Will Muschamp. I also think there are legitimate concerns about why he hasn't tried to cut his teeth outside of Saban's shadow yet.
Info from all of your sources inside the coaching fraternity?

That ship has sailed for several reasons.
1. His failure to seize the AU opportunity. Makes one question his motivation and self confidence in pursuing and taking on all that comes with being The Guy at a major program.
2. Greater success of high profile offensive coordinators than defensive coordinators recently.
3. More time passing in his current position. He isn't a rising star anymore. He is being viewed more and more as a career assistant. People with the drive and ability are upwardly mobile. Perception is more and more that Kirby lacks one or the other or both as it translates to head coach.

plus I might add. he makes over 1.2 mil so here are not many not Power 5 schools that will be able to afford him.

Yeah, his ship has sailed as far as getting an SEC HC position at 2.5 mil or more. Plenty of smaller schools, non P5, would hire him in a heartbeat. But that would be a lateral move financially.

Kirby is happy doing what his is doing making over a million a year until the right job comes up. UGA and Bama head jobs are the target but I think with the failure of Muschamp and other coordinators failure at head coach might hurt his chances at a major school head job. I could see him taking a mid school head job but not a small school.

HUNH offense was first employed in 1899 by John Heisman's Auburn team. U dum.

No sources, but I think it's pretty obvious. Kirby was getting a lot more interest three years ago.

I do not think coaches care about money as much a people try to make out. It is all about ego and wanting to be in charge of their own program. After you make a certain amount, the rest is lost in taxes.

If Saban tells them to promote Kirby when he retires that's what they'll do.

The rest of the SEC prays yall replace Saban with Smart

Pruitt will be next Bama coach. Isn't Swinney a Bama grad?

Especially considering the state of the program when Saban leaves will probably still be at a ridiculous level, so it just seems to risky to hand the keys over to a guy who has never been the head guy.
Not if Saban just moves to the office down the hall.
edit: If Saban is the next AD...and whether or not he takes it, I absolutely believe he will be made to tell Alabama no...while I believe Smart will get the job, Alabama would never put the HCIW label on him.

Since we've been reminded this morning with about six different links what the rest of the SEC thought of the Kiffin hire, you'll understand if we laugh our asses off at what "the rest of the SEC" prays for.

I think Kirby is happy doing what he's doing and doesn't want to leave unless he's offered a "destination" job. He knows he can probably get a HC job at a smaller school any time he wants. He's got a good thing going.
destination jobs are not going to hire a guy with no HC experience. As a coordinator, he will never make the money he will or get the requisite experience he needs at a smaller, non-destination, HC job. If you really think that's why he's holding out at Alabama, then he's either doing it to the detriment of his own career or he doesn't have head coaching aspirations.

He's only 38 years old. He's got some time to figure out what he wants to do.
Right now, I'd say he's got a pretty good job. Why rock the boat?

Is Kirby Smart the Bama Coach in waiting?
I think speculation has always been that he would want the Georgia job if it ever became available.
