His contract will pay him guaranteed way more than entry level engineering

I wasn't taking anything away from Dobbs. I think you misinterpreted what I was saying.

My point is that Dobbs was outstanding as a college QB despite being erratic sometimes. He could have been much better developed under a different staff and having an actual QB coach instead of a grad assistant.

Imagine if he had a guy like Cutcliffe coaching him up like Ainge did.

Cutcliffe is a QB whisperer - absolute best in the biz and Dobbs would thrive under him but they don't make too many like him. I think Dobbs will thrive in the pros because he'll have a dedicated QB coach like you say but also because he'll be able to completely dedicate himself to it. I have no doubt that when Dobbs puts his full attention on something he'll shine. Hell, he shone without being able to put 100 percent on it every day.

Also, it is funny that Josh was taken at the exact same pick that Dak was last year Number 135.

Dak much > Dobbs

Both will provide comfortable living

Engineering what if he lowers engineer in ceiling. He could miss dream assignments

Dak probably had much better college coaching.

More likely his celebrity would get him dream assignments. But even without it, you can't be in Josh Dobbs' sphere and not love him -- kid has the devil's level of charisma.

Yeah I am playing devil's advocate here, because the kid might have the best alternative option in draft. I wish him luck

I mean it's happened before. I was reading about the first Heisman winner. He wanted a 2 year guaranteed no-cut contract and asked for an amount of money that noone was paying players. When they told him no he shook their hand and went on to start a multi-million dollar rubber company.

But with the league minimum at 500k it's crazy not to pursue it in 99 percent of cases.

I think Pittsburgh is one of the few places that was a good landing spot for him. Let him go learn from one of the best and soak everything up like a sponge over these next few years before Ben retires. Landry Jones is a lame duck. I'll be following Pre season a little bit more than usual just to keep my eyes on Dobbs and seeing how he progresses. I'm very happy for him.

Especially for Dobbs. IIRC, he not only wants to design planes but also wants to run his own firm. The money he makes from the NFL can make that firm possible.

Yeah I can't think of a much better position.

New England?

Maybe but that would just rip the hearts out of Vols fans. You can't send our most beloved QB since Manning to Brady -- you can't.

Dobbs has fantastic work ethic and is very coachable.

He has all the athletic skills. Put him with a good coach, something he hasn't had since high school, and he will produce.

Engineering doesn't seem easy and something you have to keep up with

Omg, leave it to a Bayou matriculator ( guessing up to 9th grade)

Yes engineering is a difficult path to persue but it is based on scientific principles that have been well established. Unlike say Law, which changes and evolves, if Dobbs chooses to take a temporary diversion he will not find the engineering principles changed and would not have missed any game changing alterations

With CTE risk will his ability be the same?

His future will be in engineering but he should make decent money in the NFL to sit on the bench.

CTE is still a mystery. We don't know why some people get it while others don't. It's a risk but it's one he was already taking. Given that I once saw Dobbs stop a game to usher Jalen Hurd off the field when he spied that Hurd was showing signs of a concussion, I trust Dobbs is smart enough to manage the risk.
