ehhh some take that shite more seriously than others - all the guys in my group just see Auburn as a great town and time in their lives

they would never refer to "family" or anything like that

This ridiculous thread says otherwise.

I see many Auburn fans looking down at Alabama fans.

Here's my take on it. I don't think either fan base should look down on the other. And my reasoning for this is as follows.

The University of Alabama is a brand name that has always been known as the University of Alabama since it was founded in 1831. Therefore there will be a lot more fans and alumni associated with this university. Not that Auburn hasn't been around as long but it wasn't officially named Auburn University until 1960.

Naturally with the success of the University of Alabama it has garnered more of a national reputation and therefore a larger contingent of fans, mostly sidewalk. And choosing to be associated with that success, has bred a sense of entitlement among these fans. Right or wrong, people take pride in pulling for a winning team. This can be a positive or a negative as the negative examples have been shown in previous post. Shouldn't be reflective of the entire fan base.

Now with the success AU has had since the 80's it is becoming more of a national name much to the chagrin of Bama fans. That's what makes it a rivalry. Sure there are nuts from both side. Bama probably has more due to the fact that they have more fans. I have friends and family that are huge Au fans. We can talk about our respective programs, take jabs at each other and it be all in jest because we don't take ourselves seriously when it comes to our football teams.

I guess that's what's called "having a life."

So anytime someone starts a topic about an opposing school, they're worried about them? It's a message board. Embrace discussion.

Don't post much, but this is stupid..

Re: better school - you realize that UA was ranked #86 and AU was ranked #91, right? If you're as bright as you try and portray yourself, you would understand that very small margin between these rankings mean nothing. To pimp the idea one is superior over the other is laughable. Neither are Harvard, just shut up already.

Re: better campus - this is complete subjective. Naturally, an UA fan/alum will say Ttown is a better campus and the same can be said of AU alum's. UA's campus has undergone a major overhaul over the years out of necessity, but it's the damnedest thing that the same has occurred in Auburn.

The question pertained to whether the fanbases were equal and I'd be willing to bet history would side with AU.

Very well said. This applies equally to the auburn fans who seem convinced that they are Ivy League compared to the U of A. As you said, neither school is Harvard, so let's all get over ourselves.

To be completely honest I think most of this perception is based strictly on the internet and talk radio. With very few exceptions, I have genuinely liked all the Auburn people I've met or known. Good people, they just can't take a joke as easily as they can dish it out.

My first cousin lived in a trailer at AU. Why? Because his parents were poor? Not so much.

He bought a trailer outright, saved about 30k in rent during his time at AU then sold it when he left for 20k more. Walked away with an extra 50,000 by the time he graduated in savings and 80,000 in cash after he sold it. Pretty nice way to graduate and start to work.

Cool trailer bro.

So AU fans are not only more intelligent but also wealthier due to their propensity to prefer mobile homes to permanent dwellings. Interesting perspective. But yes, back to talking about how white trash Bama fans are.....

Oh yes, the AU fan favorite. Just in case we all were wondering if you were talking about the UAB or UAH fan base. Thanks for clarifying that you meant UAT.

I hate to admit this as a Bama fan and alum, but the vast majority of the friends I have all went to Auburn. I don't really know, witness, or hang out with any of these mysterious asswhipe Bama fans you guys seem to think we all are. And my AU friends and I don't really talk much trash to each other about the rivalry because we live in the reality of understanding that both AU and Alabama are both simply above average state universities with excellent football programs.

Maybe it's because we don't give a shite if you're a bama fan, and have no want or need to have a conversation with you. I've never once walked up to someone I didn't know wearing a bama hat to engage in a conversation. Yet, it never fails that if I go out wearing an AU hat, some frickstick is gonna feel the need to inform me that he/she is a bama fan. Congrats, I did not ask but whatever. Doesn't happen here in Georgia very much, most likely because Georgia-based Bama fans are probably alum. But damn near every time I'm at the beach, some a-hole is gonna need to inform me of this must know info.
You make a good point. About the only thing that I would be confident feeling about your post is, if those people who came up to you knew what kind of person you really are, they'd have never "bothered" you in the first place.
Maybe you should hang a sign around your neck with the word a-hole written on it...that'd probably do the trick!
