Realistically, it's a lose lose rivalry at this point. Hell, this thread is a perfect example. If we win, it's considered expected by most but if we lose, clearly we choked or underperformed. I give the North Avenue Trade School a lot of shite, but the records in the above posts are pretty evident that they are a reasonably solid OOC opponent.

I feel like older UGA fans care a lot more, largely due to the recent performances. Personally, since I have a ton of Tech grads that work with (and for) me, it makes for a more tolerable off season if we win.

No, GT is not a better program than FSU (07), Clemson (08), Virginia Tech (09 and 13), Penn State (10 and 11), Michigan (12), West Virginia (14), Wisconsin (15), or Southern Cal (16).

Literally every single year we schedule a better OOC than GT. You couldn't be more wrong.

bullshite - Tech as a program is lower than Ped State, FSU, USC & Mich on that list - on par with Clemson (or maybe even slightly better) and better than the rest.

West VA? Wiscy? VA Tech? all below GA Tech in prestige

The UGA guys I went to law school with said while the GT game might not be as important as UF or Auburn, it's the game you can't afford to lose.

On a side note, I was shocked to see GT leads the all-time series against Clemson 50-28-2. Considering our less than stellar record, I'd say historically GT has been much better than people give them credit for.

You people are out of your minds if you think Vandy from a few years ago couldn't compete in the ACC the last few years.

I am not out of my mind. That 2013 Vandy team needed a few miracles to beat a weak UGA team. They havent had the QB play required.

No you don't and do you actually go home and home with ANY of your OOC opponents? On a yearly basis?

Huge difference in playing an OOC at their campus. as opposed to a so called "neutral site"

Can't believe I'm gonna do this but I'm gonna have to defend UGA here. No wait.....I can't.....shite....ok here goes.

Yes Tech has had their issues over the years and way to detailed to get into on an SEC board but they have been competitive as evidenced by the bowl streak and record up till this year. Yes WE LEGITIMATELY WON A NATTY IN 1990. While we have had terrible luck against Richt since he got to Athens losing many close games that we just flat out blew, UGA is at a disadvantage when compared to Alabama because they have to play a competitive ooc opponent every year who is a bitter rival in a game that is hell for both programs and their fans. UGA fans love to play coy and say that Tech isn't a rival because they have gotten the best of it lately but try being around them when Tech wins. My UGA friends go total ape shite when they lose that game. Yes bama plays Auburn and it's bitter but it's a division game. UGA plays Auburn every year as well. And don't come back with the bama-UT game because UGA plays them every year as well.

Tech fans over the years give uga people hell because they wouldn't play anyone other than Tech ooc that was any good and hadn't played ooc outside of Athens since the 60's. To their credit in recent years they have played teams like Arizona St, Oklahoma St and Colorado all home and home and renewed their rivalry game with Clemson. There may have been others but those are the ones I remember off the top of my head. I think every school should have to play two power 5 teams ooc every year. Tech included. Some SEC teams occasionally do this. Many don't. UGA does it some. South Carolina does to. Florida really never does it. Occasionally they throw Miami in there to go along with the FSU game but typically they seem to prefer to avoid them. I don't think LSU, Auburn or Tennessee ever do it but I don't feel like looking it up so you guys can argue over them.

Bottom line is to try and belittle uga by declaring their ooc schedule crap because the Tech game isn't really a rivalry is absurd. Instead you should be commending them for the seasons where they actually play two power 5 games ooc and asking your own school to do the same for the betterment of the sport. Dammit uga I feel dirty now. Time for a shower.

Imo Its 2 fold. Means a good bit for each team
For UGA its about pride like we cant lose to these Tech nerds
For GT, its their superbowl

For what it's worth, over the past 10 years, both vandy and tech have the same record vs georgia, a sad 2-8. Of course, we don't get to inflate our overall record with an acc schedule, so we've only been to 4 bowl games in that period, not 19 straight or whatever number tech has.

No complaints here though, we didn't run away with our tail between our legs.

Bro, Wake freaking Forest won an ACC title and played in the Orange Bowl not long ago. Maryland with Ralph Friedgen did the same. Duke played for the conference title in the last couple years. Duke!!!! You think that Duke team was any more talented than those Vandy teams? Come on now, you're just being stubborn. Vandy could have certainly competed in the ACC.

UGA fans want to beat Florida more but losing to GT is worse. If that makes sense. I've lived in Atlanta for awhile now and that's how many of them have explained it to me.

I love to use stats. They are difficult to argue against....however, you are correct. Most people skip right past them for that reason.

Except that in the last 25 years Georgia leads the series 20-5. And it's not looking good for the foreseeable future.

As for the T-Shirt fans? Yes, you do. I know a LOT of GT fans and very few of them went to GT. In fact, they probably have more t shirt fans than a lot of schools.

This is a fair statement. Very accurate.

Again, very accurate. back in the 50s, 60s and 70s Tech had some very good teams. Of course, they have had some very good individual teams in other eras. (1990 for example)

Are you saying Vandy would have won the ACC in 2002 or 2006?

I know that Duke team had a competent QB unlike Vandy has had.

All good points, sir. Well done.

Add to those OOC opponents UNC for 2016, @ Notre Dame in 2017, Notre Dame in 2019 and going out to 2025 and 2026, a home and home with UCLA. Still a good bit of time to add others in there, which will almost certainly happen.

Oregon was in there at one point, but backed out.

They still play each other? Is it televised? Don't think I've noticed it on TV in a decade.

Under Richt, we blew out Auburn a lot more often than we blew out GT.
