i agree, but the big question is muschamps ability to coach and develop it. uf probably has one of the top 3 or so talented rosters in the sec, as far as star service rankings go.

our questions about uf will be answered saturday, im guessin uk is better than last year and florida is still working out some kinks.

They no doubt have improved, but have they improved beyond "kentucky level"? I am not sure about that.

Welcome though. I appreciate smart posters that can bring analysis, thought, objectivity, and tact all combined with humor, homerism, anger, self-deprecating, outright flaming, and occasional gif usage with quality pop culture references.

Florida went 4-8 last year. I'm not convinced of their talent

This shows ignorance. That's why UF isn't being respected by the media or uninformed fans. We were down to our third string qb, a walk on LB and enough serious injuries that no team or any coach could have bone better. That's a fact jack.
25 players missed a total of 126 games last year because of injuries...get it? Got it? Lack of talent? Obviously you don't follow recruiting at all.

I can tell you one thing...UFs players aren't saying it to anyone but behind closed doors the coaches and players are fuming at the lack of respect....that makes for a very dangerous reptile. Ask the 2008 Ohio St team what happens. Boom is using the lack of respect in the locker room and the players are ready to bust heads.

As for UK game...UK has themselves a really good HC in Stoops and they are gonna deliver some knockout punches to a few teams (listening UGA fans?...y'all travel to Lexington). Their team speed is shocking on both sides of the ball. Their qb will be a high draft pick in the future and Garrett Johnson, Blake Bone, Timmons and Dorian are bonafide wrs. UK is just a power run game away from being really scarey.

Just remember this: what were the Vegas odds of Mizzou - AU being in the SECCG last year? Odds of
AU being in BCSCG? You cant make assumptions based on the previous year.

I wish we were the ones coming off a tight win. This helps Florida.
But that can also work against you. A triple OT battle like that can emotionally drain a team, especially on the heels of another big game.

If Florida stays healthy, they will contend for the East.

Nice, pretty lofty expectations, but I'll do my best.

To stay on topic, I'll go Bama with a late TD to seal it at 24-13. Hargreaves keeps Cooper in check most the game, but he finally breaks free to put it away.

I think given the context of Florida's season last year, it's not completely unfair to doubt the team considering the uninspiring victory over Kentucky.

But what I saw Saturday was not a bad Florida team. It was a team with a lot of individual talent that had a bunch of miscues and had not yet learned to play together as a team yet.

I'm not saying we'll have as good of a season, but Auburn last year struggled with a very pedestrian MSU team at home last year before the lights turned on the 2nd half against LSU.

Realistic Georgia fans know that game will be tough for sure. Kentucky definitely surprised me Saturday night. If they stay healthy and are not affected with depth issues as it is a game later in the year, that game could be a dogfight.

This was my attempt to help improve thread quality. And this is the perfect example of how "rant-think" will never allow you to have a decent football discussion.
I agree with the majority of your OP, and I agree fully with your second observation.

I tried something similar on Monday, asking that the Ranters give an objective evaluation of their own teams. I got five serious responses and a handful of smartass comments.

Rather pointless, really. I should have just said "Bert is fat." That is some serious analysis.

UK has an offense with a pulse this year, people just have a misconception of last Saturdays game because everyone is use to seeing a Kentucky team that never does much, so it makes Florida look worse than they are, but Florida is actually a good team minus questionable QB play, So FL and Bama will be a closer game than most are thinking

Every team in the SEC is susceptible to having a 4-8 type season because of the toughness of this conference top to bottom. Last year, the East had six teams capable of beating almost anyone on a given Saturday. The Gators had a tough injury-riddled season so it's hard to judge them on that display. Then, UGA felt the injury sting in the second half of the season. Let's not forget that the severely depleted Dogs should have beaten the SEC champs last year.

This year, some team in the West is going to look really bad by the end of the season by the mere fact that someone has to be on the losing end of these games. I have never seen the level of parity as we have in the West this year from 1 to 7.

The SEC champion could very well have 2 losses this year. I would be shocked if the champion still didn't get in the playoff though.

Thru out this 28 year win streak there have been years when UK played a great game and came close to winning. When the Gators had to pull a play out of their butts to win. This was one of those years, UK played a great game, give them credit. Why does UK always seem to give UF problems? IMO, we don't give them respect that they deserve. They are an SEC opponent and should be taken seriously. I think that they are a program that is on the rise and will be earning respect from everyone in the near future. I believe the future is bright for UK with Stoops as HC.

Thanks to so many of you for your responses.

Good point about triple overtime wins sometimes being an emotional handicap rather than a help. We have certainly seen some of our teams suffer from this (seems like every year, if we beat LSU we are emotionally vulnerable the next game). In this case, because of the inexperienced talent, I think it is more of a help to UF. And having an easy win over USM probably didn't help our inexperienced talent grow as much as it could have.

I think this is going to be a very interesting game that will tell us quite a bit about both teams.

Def. will be an interesting game. There's a lot I'm looking to find out from this one.

1) Does Muschamp belong/is he truly HC material.

On paper UF should hang with Bama, Bama is still breaking in a new QB, UF has a quality D that can disrupt offenses and stifle any style of offense.

2) Is Saban stuck in his mold of his "process" or is he going to let Kiffin open it up. I think Bama calls a conservative game, plays it safe, and UF makes it a tight game.

3) Driskell and Sims which one steps it up and takes their team to the next level.

4) If Florida can fend off Bama and do what they want on offense they may lay the blueprint for teams to later in the season to add some wrinkles and give Bama trouble.

Every Kentucky point was scored by a freshman. That point alone tells you Kentucky is definitely much better than last year. Stoops has recruited unbelievably well by Kentucky standards.

Perhaps you should concern yourself less with Florida and give UK some credit for improving after finally hiring a football coach who knows how to recruit and coach?

I think it's really hard(and dangerous)to make assumptions on any given team from early season games. teams develop and grow as the season progresses. As a MIZZOU fan, I'm optimistic about their chances for this season in the east, but also realize that anything from 8-0 all the way down to 0-8 is possible in this conference. Early on, I see improvement from every team in the conference this year....with the exception of Vandy..
