Mullen can lose out and not get canned. Next year will be a successful year. Hopefully he leaves after that.

Fired?!? Hell, Scott Stricklin will give him a raise if he beats Ole Miss... Even if he's 5-7.

What is Mullen's buyout? That always plays a part.

GT is ready to can CPJ but he has a $7.9 M buyout.

He's not going anywhere unless he goes 0-8 this year.

WAOM moment of the year:

We're 8-3 going into the Egg Bowl, State is 0-7 in the SEC and beats us by 3 TDs. Calling it.

Exactly. Whether or not he knew is beside the point - programs will hold off one year until it's dealt with, especially if they have a losing season.

Franklin has another year with the 'Dores.

My prediction for Dan Mullen is this: He finishes off his feast of cupcakes (4-0), and beats Kentucky and Arkansas to get to 6-6 on the year. Thunder Dan beats some hapless team in Birmingham or Shreveport, gets to 7-6, and is viewed as keeping things together during a 'down season.'

He'll stay, but it really is in Mississippi State's best interest to lose out and fire that clown. He's already been lapped by Freeze in recruiting, in a state where 'getting your own' is a must to even compete, game in and game out in the SEC.

The Bulldogs need to get back to what made them legitimate in the 90's-- a coach that can recruit beef eaters on both sides of the line, get a running back like James Johnson to pound the rock, and let Dak make something happen of P.A.

Honestly, I think Kirby Smart would be a fantastic hire for Mississippi State.

I don't see you being 8-3.
You'd have to beat us and Mizzou...that ain't happening.

I do agree they beat you in the Egg Bowl.

He is their most successful coach since Darrel Royal did a two year stint in the 50s. If they fire him they are morons.

Jackie Sherrill was more successful than Dan Mullen has been. Mullen's overall winning percentage may be better, but the teams sherrill fielded in the late 90s were better than anything Mullen has had ever.

As to the OP, Mullen isn't going anywhere this year. I'm not sure he'd even be fired if they lost the rest of their games

If it is that, they should pay it out and go after Chad Morris(before GT does in two years) or Huds.

Kiffin to State.

I realize this is a joke, but that would be awesome for State if they could get Kiffin. realistically, where does Kiffin show up next? Assistant coach in the NFL or some small school like Petrino?

Clearly if Bovine University fires Merlins, they better be ready to bring Petrino back to the SEC fold. Could be a hell of an upgrade.

Even if they finish 4-8 ,there's no way they fire him after he's taken them to 3 straight bowls.

They're stuck with that douchebag for another year and I find it hilarious.

Hud and Petrino did battle for the title of Head Coach in Waiting. Hud won.
