I think not that long ago USC was preseason # 1 and finished the season unranked. Also think Oklahoma did the same thing like 2 years ago.

Yeah, BJ is pathetic but MsGarrison is the one who is really suffering now. The love of his life is getting pounded by every dick in Florida and his favorite team (whoever is playing LSU) is 0-3 so far this year.

It's up there, or maybe I should say down there with the biggest disappointments. You remember the one from your team. For LSU 98 was brutal. The Defense was terrible and that team had horrible luck, but at least the O played fairly well for the most part. A lot of close games, which is heartbreaking, but at least in some regards you could see good play. AU has looked just putrid On D and O at times this season.... Just bad.

Far too early to tell, but we did win our first 2 games and still have an outside shot at .500 and a bowl. If we end up going 3-9 I'll reconsider - but even that wouldn't be the worst ever.

Until someone goes from preseason #1 to 1-11 or so, that distinction belongs to these guys.

'98 LSU made UGA fans think Quincy Carter was a Heisman winner.

BowlJackson is a Cyber Terrorist and he should be turned into Home Land Security for the safety of this Site and Country.

No one considered 2012 AU a serious contender for the SEC West title, much less a potential NC. We weren't even a consensus top 25 team, and were #28 in the preseason AP poll, and with 5 of our regular season opponents ranked in the top 15, we weren't expected to win big.

Bama in '00, on the other hand, was #3 in the AP preseason, receiving 3 1st place votes. They were prohibitive favorites to win the SEC and expected to contend for the NC as well. By season's end they had been shut out at home by Southern Miss, had lost homecoming to UCF (becoming the first ever major conference team to lose to the Golden Knights), were shutout again in the first ever Iron Bowl played in Bryant-Denny, and were notified of an impending NCAA investigation that led to major sanctions.

Only thing they had in common with Chiz's last AU team is the win total, and firing their HC.

2012 USC was preseason #1 and finished 7-6 with a few early losses if I remember correctly.

The best answer is 2007 Michigan. Preseason #5, opened with a loss to Appalachian State and a 39-7 home shellacking from Oregon.

you're leaving out the fact they finished with 9 wins, including a citrus bowl win over heisman trophy winner tim tebow

Auburn reminds me of lsu in 1998. We were number 6 and had Kevin Faulk and a good offense and we were 4-8 or something like that.

except auburn doesn't have an offense this year...or a defense. LSU returned a 3 year starter at QB and was a veteran team. Auburn just got a bunch of hype because of potential. LSU had players and experience, they just made an awful hire at DC.

000 - we started ranked #3, lost to UCLA out of the gates and it got worse from there.

1999 is the year we won the SEC behind Shaun Alexander. One point away from winning the Orange Bowl that year vs Michigan. Beat Florida in an incredible game 40-39 in their stadium in OT, then trounced them 34-7 or something like that in the SECCG rematch.

There was at least a legit basis for the Bama hype that year. There was no real rational basis to hype Auburn as a front runner this year.
