Texas
USC
Miami
Nebraska
Michigan
etc

Who knows what happens years down the road, but if Gus is consistent then basically any school with a multiple national championship past and a huge budget that wants to replicate SEC glory for themselves.

Texas is the only one on that list that he might would leave for.

Right. Malzahn coached high school in small town Arkansas, college in Fayetteville, Tulsa, Auburn and wherever Arky St is. He ain't going to Mich, Ohio or Calif. Besides, you have to huddle in Nov/Dec in Mich and Ohio to stay warm.

I know this much, AU fans are creating incredibly unrealistic expectations for Gus.

A lot of jimmies rustled over a coach that everyone said was just a glorified HS coach when AU hired him. Now, every power in College and Pro Football will be in a bidding war over his services.
It's nice to know that everyone values our coach so much.

unfortunately this is true... fandom aside, as a business man/coach anyone of these options holds more value than AU with the exception of Arky(that would be personal) and i dont think Penn St will be up there to much longer...

get mad all you want, it was a simple curiosity question. didnt mean to rustle

Disagree about FSU, $$$ keep them well below AU. Ability to continue in the facilities arm race and paying assistants keep them down imo.

I agree with you. I also think that Saban stays as long as he wants. I think any frustration he has in spring is from the 5* players that he has on board as freshmen that have had their butts kissed their whole career and now have to actually compete for a position.

Strong UA and Strong AU is good for everyone.

Yup, the first year wild success can be a kiss of death.

Because fans of OU, tOSU, UCLA and FSU (remember them?) go to bed dreaming about one day being in the same league as Auburn. They so jelly.

All we ever heard at Alabama was that Texas could outbid us, but you don't think they couldn't outbid Auburn? Are you delusional?

Texas and ND can outbid everyone, but they have proven that will not get in a bidding contest. It might have something to do with arrogance, but they are not going to pay well above the Market Value of coach.

3. Recruiting Base- There are more DI Athletes within 250 miles of AU than any of Those Schools. Maybe, but you're up against Alabama, Florida, Georgia, LSU, etc. Texas trumps this.

Texas is up against Texas A&M, LSU and OU, just to name a few. The SEC is proven to be a bigger name than UT, even in the State of TX.

quote:

Fan Support- you tell me. Pretty sure Texas and ND would top Auburn in this category easily. Probably Michigan, Ohio State, and USC as well. OSU and UM don't share their state with another program that takes over half the fan base.

Auburn had 60% of the fans in the Rose Bowl for the BCSNCG. How many did ND take to Miami two years ago ?

Or he could stay at the school that has all the above.

Malzahn has a very good situation at Auburn...... right now. The Barn had a magical year EVERYTHING fell into place at the end until the last one. They beat Alabama true enough but that win vs Georgia was Karma ripping UGA's head off and spitting down his still bleeding throat. Pure luck.

The reason I bring that up is things are very unlikely to fall their way like that again. Lose a couple, and especialy lose to Alabama letting them go back to Atlanta and the love fest might end as quickly as it started.

Just ask Tommy Tubs and Tater Tot and yes Mean Gene Chizik how fickle the Auburn Nation is.

Tubs waved his fingers in Bama's face for years, then he loses ONCE and is ousted. Tater Tot coaches an unbeaten season in a probation year,a team that goes down in Barner Lore then a bad season or two and out come the torches and pitchforks. Chizik wins a National Championship then WHAM BAM.

Watch yer back Gustav.

That one play might have been luck, but Auburn whipped UGA but most of the night. They had a 20 point lead with 12 min to go in the game. Most fans believe the Defense will not give up leads like that this year.

As long as Gus is a thorn in Saban's side, he has nothing to worry about. All the AU Ex-coaches you mentioned, never had a bammer coach try to make a rule up to slow down their Offense.
Gustav, I think you are good for a while.

I guess you were too young to remember a brick being thrown through Bill Curry's window, or Shula being run out of town? Do you honestly think if Saban had a bad year that the fans wouldn't cry out that the game has passed him by and want him gone? You should have heard the call in shows of "true Alabama fans" after the Iron Bowl and Sugar Bowl. They already wanted him gone.

Situation 5.1(a) - Gus leaves Auburn to coach the Dallas Cowboys; Bruce Pearl takes on double-duties as Auburn's basketball and football coaches, multiple MNCs ensue; Alabama hires Phil Jackson, who is knocking on death's door, gives him a fedora, and builds him a statue; Mike Price emerges as the coach of the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets and they win back to back MNCs and rustle jimmies all across the Southeast

It took some serious meth to come up with this. Kudos.
