I love it. If Kirby is good enough for Bama he ain't leaving Athens. I'd say the same for McElwain at UF and he didn't play for UF. As I stated, Bama will find it difficult to pull a coach of the quality it wants to follow in Saban's footsteps. I've got no beef with Bama. But when saban leaves and their back to hiring striper bangers I will enjoy the melt.

I think the administration at UGA will wear on Kirby after awhile, and he may long for the complete control of the program, better facilities, etc.

We were never going to have it as good as we did under the Bear. It took a long time but here we are. You see those statues in front of Bryant Denny? Alabama has been good over the years and for a long time.

Gene Stallings did very well at Alabama. He got a statue. Personally I would like to see Dabo. An Alum. Proven coach and young, a winner and if he can do what he does at Clemson I believe he will be very successful at Bama should he come here.

The mark of a good coach is the willingness to hire good coaches. Dabo Swinney can hire good coaches, Dabo Swinney can recruit, Dabo Swinney is coaching the #1 ranked team in the country.

It almost isn't fair, that Bama will go from Saban to mid 40's Dabo...but buckle up butternuts, this ain't Georgia.

That's my biggest concern. Kirby is painfully familiar with "the Georgia Way" and is pretty smart (no pun intended). I pray he made his expectations perfectly clear and in writing. Much like I think Bama will find it hard to land a big name coach post Saban- I can't imagine a big name coach coming to UGA and putting up with the SEC grind and our admin at the same time.

No, it's not. Might have to remove your houndstooth glasses though. In fact it was a Tuscaloosa radio guy being interviewed and he agreed.

A guy that can win 10 games a year is fine with me. This is one of the most dominating periods in CFB. To follow it with decent success and 10-11 games a year, while still managing some success vs rivals, would be fine in my book.

I don't think a proven coach at a big-time program will touch Bama.

Yeah, but then consider that there are very few schools out there that can match our ability to write a large paycheck.

It won't be easy finding someone comparable to Saban, though.

Miles will be next. Did nobody here read the contract Bama signed with the Devil? The deal is, Bama gets coaches that will win them national titles, but LSU gets to have a national title with the coach first. Bama figured, quite rightly, that there are worse trade-offs than being sloppy seconds to a bunch of Cajuns in return for more titles.

We will probably get McElwain or Kirby, depending on who is more successful at their current school.

Unless they're feeling so much heat they think they need to jump to stay employed why would either leave for Bama?

Hell, McElwain only has what 3 years of Bama ties to begin with and Smart will be coaching at his Alma Mater.

This just shows the crapshow that has become LSU. Dabo knew steele sucked, so instead of idk maybe making O the D coordinator, Ole Lesters gives Steele a shot. Hey we can't stop ACC powerhouses, maybe he can slow down SEC schools

Sean Payton. He's going to wash out of the NFL in five years without Brees.

Every great head coach knows he needs great assistants to be successful.

Look at Bear Bryant for example.

Schellenberger created Miami out of absolutely nothing. He is just one coach, there were several others who also won NCs who worked for Bear.

Basically, your point holds true for every great head coach. The best coaches manage their staff and players by letting the assistants work.

Edit: I don't really want Dabo, I think I would rather have Joey Jones.

Bama could absolutely get a guy like Brian Kelly, Chip Kelly, Gary Patterson, or if Pete Carroll gets tired of the NFL again. However, the timing would need to be right.

One problem, there aren't very many home run hires available. Slim pickings at the top. There are maybe 5-7 "elite" coaches, Meyer is a step above everyone else, then Saban is another step above that.

By the way, IF Bama went from Saban to Chip Kelly, I think the rant would break.

If it was to happen after this season was over - which it will not - we would make Shaw turn us down first.

I doubt he would turn down 8 mil per year plus another 6 mil for assistant coaches. However if he did - which I doubt - we would make Ravens/Harbough turn us down next.

Dabo would be 3rd and he would take it - no doubt.

Sure you've got no beef with Bama but you also buy into the absurd notion that the default state of the program is having to beg the Mike Shulas and Mike Prices of the world to be our head coach. Anyone we get will be a huge dropoff from Saban but this idea that the program has always been unattractive to coaches is stupid.
