Love the Auburn downvotes. The best team in their history (with Al Borges at OC, no less) couldn't beat LSU without the help from the refs.

How far inland is it?

Sweet baby Jesus, that's hardly the best team we've ever had. The refs cheated by calling LSU on their ignoring the rules? Give me a break.

I checked auburn weather for sept 16 2004 and max gusts were 33mph...what's up with that?
I think the topography in Florida is quite a bit different than auburn for one. A hurricane 80 miles to the east that is not weakening is going to experience some bad winds even on the best side of the storm. Not to mention the fad t that I'm sure there are plenty of fans/people that will be impacted the further east you are from Gainesville.
Idk at LSU for example we have fans coming from all directions to attend games...maybe all Florida fans live west of Gainesville???

Around Birmingham certain areas had power out for almost 2 weeks and a lot of trees down, and Birmingham is 100 miles north of Auburn.
Did they play any games in Birmingham that weekend?

Not sure about games in Birmingham but tuscaloosa saw 90 mph winds and its about 120 miles inland. We played west carolina that week. There were massive power outages in alabama but we still played at 6 pm. I just remember it being wet, nasty and windy.

Did about $500 worth of damage I hear.

Then we'll play on Sunday? LSU fans bitched about that idea too.

Honestly there was a tornado that touched down right by my parent's house in Opelika spawned from it. They were extremely lucky. It destroyed several houses nearby by uprooting pine trees and tossing them.

Not sure where y'all are getting wind speeds but weather underground said top gust of 50 moh. So far I've been told auburn and Tuscaloosa experienced hurricane force winds but the records don't support that. Actually the storm is said to have rapidly weakened as it went inland.

Tornados are biggest fear inland. Idk I feel so. La. Has more experience with hurricane impacts. We find it crazy that Florida officials have kept the game scheduled as planned. We just want to play and we know the slightest variation to the west and Florida may not have a home game NEXT week.

People keep acting like the projected path will follow the exact forecast.

Auburn is NOT 80 miles from the Gulf. It is about 190 miles from the Gulf.

Yes tornadoes are the biggest fear inland. I don't know about other Auburn fans but our area seems to be skipped over completely by major storms/systems or hammered by them. But in my experience, which is 35 years here, it's all or nothing - just like our football team. I have some great photographs my mother took back when Hurricane Opal hit where I was hanging from a stop sign because the land it was planted in was sub planted 90 degrees.

My power was out for 3 days. I had to get the chainsaw out and cut through 5 trees. I hated having to do that.
But I still made it to the game.
What is the problem?
College football fans used to have balls.

I just love when people think all hurricanes are the same and forget to account for that minor detail of what the winds were at that location. Apples and oranges.

All fine and fair, but remember this attitude when Florida cancels.

Yeah, y'all had a great team that year. So great that y'all didn't play for the championship.
