In 10 years when football is on life support, what will the SEC do?

Not going to be a pretty situation. A lot of money and self worth tied into that sport, especially in this conference. Whole lot of people are going to be grasping at sand as it falls apart to try and keep it around.

Will be interesting to watch it all play out.

(Holds nose...)

Soccer.

Seriously, you’ll see the money going into football be focused on basketball and baseball. We’re already starting to see some of that with new or revamped facilities across the SEC.

But, you will also see an increase in soccer spending and popularity due to its global brand. It is a gold mine.

Also-football has more than 10 years left. At least 20.

People were saying the same thing about college football back when Teddy Roosevelt stepped in and put his thang down to make it a safer sport. I don't think its going away in ten years, but I would not be surprised if other sports gain in importance.

If that happens to be the case watch as SEC schools start pumping money into college soccer or even Lacrosse. Its not going away but even if it does... we will find something to replace college football.

Gonna enjoy the melt when 85 women's scholarships dry up overnight.

Soccer but no more heading in that sport either..

I’m weening myself into being a MLB fan again.
Sad because college football is the greatest sport on the planet.

Money is going into baseball programs in the SEC because LSU taught the rest of the league how to win and make money in baseball.

I mean I know football is dangerous and obviously has negative long term effects on health, but did something specifically happen to say we have 10 years left?

Most Tennessee fans have started saying it since their program is dead

quality of play is going to drop but football isn't going anywhere in the medium term at least.

No, just looking at the progression and the rates of youth participation in 10 years it will be a full blown "is the sport dying?" crisis IMHO

It won't be outlawed or anything, but the narrative will be that it is dying and nobody is playing it anymore.

So I just used it as an estimate

makes sense...is there accurate data on participation in pop-warner or high school football?

Off to the Google.

10 years is a bit soon but it will happen eventually. 20 years might be a better number.

VOLS are ahead of the curve. We have already pivoted away from the archaic sport of football.

Basketball is the obvious answer.

I am a huge baseball guy but can’t see it ever taking hold in college with it being such a poor product compared to the professional product. There are gaps in football and basketball as well but football doesn’t compete with the NFL H2H and basketball has March Madness. Nothing to sell at all for college baseball outside of rural towns in the south who don’t have an MLB option.
