What a conundrum that would be for Vols fans & administrators in regards to Butch.

Since Bama would still control its own destiny, I would kind of enjoy seeing it.

On the sidelines; Peyton would have a hard time hiding his disappointment, and Phil would be clapping and crying at the same time.

Could/would UT fire Butch if they beat Bama, or would they wait until the day after the UK loss?

Firing him at halftime of Kentucky game would be more impressive than the USC tarmac firing of Kiffen.

Does the team stay on the bus?

At this stage I'm pretty sure the Alabama team could accidentally beat Tennessee by running straight up the middle on every play.

with as shitty as everyone else in the CFP race is playing, with the exception of UGA, Bama could lose this game and still make the CFP. Hell LSU lost to fricking Troy and those clowns are still top 25.

This TN team and this TN staff could play Bama 100 times and Bama would win 103.

A more likely "what if" --

A) Butch's team turns things around after the Bama game, performs pretty well, wins out or just has one more close loss to LSU (finishing 6-6 or 7-5, with 1-play losses to UF & SC) and he is hauling in a great recruiting class.

B) UT's behind the scenes coaching search efforts don't produce anyone to hire who is a definite low-risk, significant upgrade over Butch.

C) Rather than spending big $ on a fairly risky hire that you'd need to give 3-4 years to see how it pans out, destabilizing everything, losing recruits, etc.

-- UT opts to keep Butch for 2018.

Shades of 1999 Bama. Rumor was that Bama would fire DuBose after losing to Fl but the team rallied behind him and beat Fl to save DuBose's job. Costliest win in Bama history.

I think it would be more difficult for Bama to lose to Tennessee than to win. Bama's second string would kick their arse
