Why should one person be considered the best in over 100 years of the league while another, with better numbers, is an afterthought, just because (in a team game) he doesn't have as many team accolades?
How many games did the 2010 auburn defense win for them? The 92 bama offense? It's a fricking team game..just because UGA's defense has sucked eggs for most of murray's career doesn't in ANY way diminish how good HE is as a QB.
But anyone with even a basic understanding of logic would understand that.

Murray started 4 years. DW split time with Terry Dean in 1993 and 1994. That's why he has better stats. Who knows how many records DW would have set if he started all four years and not split time.

I love love LOVE DW, but I don't think he's the best QB in SEC history.
I think Tebow could probably, well hell not even probably, I think tebow DOES have a better claim than DW does. And not to be a johnny come lately here, but I think Cam can throw his hat in the ring as well. It hurts him he only played 1 year, but holy shite talk about a year.
I hate to agree with a mutt, but I don't think DW is the best SEC qb of all time.

Quarterbacks will always be judged in some way by the success of the teams they led. It's not the only factor, but it is one of them.
Toot Murray's horn all you want, but I guarantee you that practically no one outside of Athens would be prepared to name him SEC G.O.A.T. at QB. No one needs to toot Wuerffel's horn. Or Tebow. or Newton. What do these guys all have in common that Murray doesn't have? Think about it when you get back from Golden Corral.

Did I say anything remotely close to that in the thread? Nope, sure didn't. The whole point of the thread is that wuerffel shouldn't be #1, not that murray should be ranked x or y.

I don't hate him at all. He's a great player and an even better person.

It is crazy that he put up the career stats he did, given this fact. Look at what it took for someone to pass his career passing TD record.
When you look at his numbers and championships, I can understand why they would put him #1. If Tebow had won the '09 SEC championship he would probably deserve the top spot.

Numbers don't tell the whole story. If they did, Timmy Chang would be one of the best QBs ever.
