He had to leave and coach in Statesboro Arkansas to prove he can coach as a HC. Smart, who has multiple NC's as a DC, has not got a major job opportunity yet. You never hear of those two claiming race. Point being, major programs have other things to consider when hiring a coach, other than just X's and O's.

Texas wouldn't hire a black coach if A&M hadn't hired one first. They're trying to keep up, but they're going about it in a superficial, misguided way.
