If Texas were to join the SEC, would A&M be mediocre again?

Clearly hypothetical but how much has conference affiliation boosted A&M?

Would Texas be just as successful or more successful after 3 years+ in the SEC than A&M?

Yes, Texas would take over their seat at the table almost immediately

Yes, all of those "resources" that A&M has that makes them a "sure thing" to become dominant, Texas has even more.

A&M would be fricked.

ftr, after JFF is gone after this year, A&M will be mediocre again and Sumlin is going to jump ship/get fired.

1) More than a lot

2) Absolutely. They would be more successful and retake their position as a&m's steps daddy (LSU will hold the reigns for now )

The "come play in the SEC" recruiting tactic A&M is using would go right out the window.

Their Ath Dept is a morass of idiocy right now. Until they get rid of Dodds, nothing would change.

Reading your thread got me thinking about a hypothetical conference with Texas. If they join the conference here is how I'd rank SEC football programs.

1. Alabama
2. Florida
3. Texas
4. LSU
5. Georgia
6. South Carolina
7. Texas A&M
8. Auburn
9. Ole Miss
10. Mississippi State
11. Vanderbilt
12. Tennessee
13. Missouri
14. Kentucky

Again? A&M is mediocre now, but they do have a huge upside.

And Texas will never be allowed into this league, they had their chance. A&M has nothing to worry about in that regard.

1. Not going to happen
2. A&M would lose the, A&M is the only SEC school in Texas factor.
3. That's about all it would hurt. A&M didn't magically transform because they joined the SEC. We've had a strong program (entire athletic program, not just football) for years now and hiring Sumlin, upgrading Kyle, signing JFF all would have happened in the Big XII.

If the money is right for both sides, no one will GAF about them having "had their chance."
