Would they have beaten Texas A&M?
I think so. Most of State's football team was still hungover from the Alabama game and we still managed to almost beat Texas.

On the other hand, if they had played Alabama in week 2 or 3, they might have realized how weak they were much earlier and gone into a tailspin, rather than slicing through the first half of the season and setting unreal expectations.
