Sleep tight. No expansion until it's time for another TV deal (AFTER the one currently being negotiated by Slive).

Realistically I could see FSU and Kansas.

UF gets a rival. Mizzou gets a rival. SEC gets huge basketball team and overall good program.

If what Mizzou fans say about the "beakers" is true, then Kansas would turn their noses up at an SEC invite.

However, Kansas might the be the first "flagship" school to be relegated to a non-BCS conference during the next round of expansion and I think they know it, so they would jump at the opportunity.

Think the State of North Carolina and Commonwealth of Virginia.

If you're responding to my post, I don't really consider UVA to be a "flagship" school as far as athletics are concerned and there's no chance UNC is left out.

I don't see WVU ever being invited to join our conference. It's entirely to hard to get to that campus for one thing and the fanbase isn't really "SEC like" for lack of a better word

I could see North Carolina because that would make things interesting with USCe. I could also see Clemson for the same reason.

The only thing stopping FSU from joining is Florida. Which is why i put them alittle lower on my list of schools.

In the end, I can see UNC,Clemson and/or Virginia joining our conference in the near future.

Can you imagine what it would be like for the Virginia fanbase & the Ole Miss fanbase to have to tailgate together?

I don't there's any rivalry to speak of between them. Seems like they share teams if anything (USCe football/UNC basketball). I don't get it.

I'm basically just making a connection between the Carolinas thats all. Of course USCe biggest OOC rival is Clemson.

But hasn't Slive already made the statement that if a state already has an SEC school in it that they will not accept another school within that same state

16 teams is two separate conferences. It is "us" the West and "them" the East since you only get to play a East team once every 14 years or so.

So, when you use the term "flagship", does that mean the school has won a national championship in a major sport (football, basketball, baseball)?

When you call Kansas a "flagship" school, I can't tell if you're serious or if you're trying hard to troll Mizzou fans. I assume the latter, which I acknowledge you are great at doing!

Kansas is not a "flagship" institution. However, they are certainly one of the largest "phagship" institutions in the country.

I think you meant to call them a phagship school...

Florida want's to be the only sec team in that state and I can't blame them. Remember, this is all about money, that's why the sec went to get schools from texas and mizz. If the sec goes to 16 teams, look for them to go to states without sec teams and high tv rating areas.

If it expanded to 16, I would assume it would only happen with the death of another big conference, the Bug XII, or the ACC. In which case, the powers that be might forego the NCAA, expand the season by a game, and the SEC could look at 10-11 conference games.

If there is a scenario where the SEC could have its major powers compete for a National Title with one or two losses consistwntly, this will happen. TV revenue will mean more to the universities than the gate revenue from a shitty warm up game.

Such a long winded post considering you didn't even understand what I was saying.

Kansas University is the flagship university of Kansas.

Do you disagree?

I don't consider Kansas anything remotely close to what you consider them to be. I understand the term "flagship" quite well, and technically you're right. They are the most prominent school in Kansas. Holy fricking shite!

But these days the term "flagship" has been perverted to imply greater meaning than simply the most prominent State university.

"Flagship" now implies national prominence and importance. Prolific.

Kansas isn't quite there yet and never will be. Neither is Arkansas. That's why the Arkansas "flagship" is so humorous. They act as if they matter when in fact no one cares about them.

No it doesn't. All it means is that it's the most prominent/relevant in that particular state.

And since you went there, they're more relevant nationally than Mizzou is.

And the Arky/flagship thing is a joke that you apparently haven't gotten yet.

As much as I hate the frickers if conferences go to 16, kU will get the 16th spot in the Big Ten. K-State is fricked but kU will end up being safe.
